If there is one story you have to read today, let this be it. How negligence and apathy for human life has killed one more person.
Absolutely heartbreaking story of Arunkumar, the manual scavenging worker who was killed while cleaning a septic tank in Express Avenue Mall. His brother Ranjithkumar narrates what happened.

‘Not given masks or boots’: Brother of manual scavenging worker who died in Chennai mall

22-year-old Ranjithkumar stands forlorn outside a government mortuary in Royapettah, Chennai. Dressed in a black T-shirt, he runs his fingernails darkened by grime across his face, a vacant expression in his eyes. His hair is matted with muck, specks of which cover his clothing. But when a friend hands over a wet cloth to help him wipe off the dirt, he waves it off, choosing to keep the reminder of a traumatic night - one which he survived, but his brother Arunkumar did not.

Manual scavenging is banned and there are not sufficient programmes to make sure people know. 600 to they were offered. That's $11 Canadian. This man's family is without him now because of this. Really puts things into perspective, thank you for sharing this.
