UP: Mistaking Toilet Painted In Saffron As Temple, People Offer Prayers For Over A Year

In Uttar Pradesh, a toilet painted in saffron colour in the Maudaha village of the district was mistaken to be a temple by the residents.

@goldenarcher @ikaveri

Serves fools who think saffron is holy, right!

My son, as a 4-year old, once prayed to a hand pump inside the RK Puram Ayyappa temple. He was merely following his mom, who was praying to each deity!

He got many indulgent smiles that day!

Today, the wife continues to be a staunch believer, I continue to be agnostic, while junior has turned atheist. We are a reasonably happy family!!

@NSure @goldenarcher interesting. Believers can be thought of as children who unquestionly imitate.

@ikaveri @goldenarcher Indeed! As long as they don't take up weapons! The moment they do that, they've crossed over to the devil!

BTW, my story is real! Challenged nearly 20 years ago, junior is now a strapping lad of 23!! ๐Ÿ˜Š

@NSure @ikaveri LOL! Yes, we have taken religion and mixed it with superstition to ridiculous rituals and extraordinary levels.
@NSure Two thoughts: Recalling what Prahalatta said; you are not lamenting the fact that the facilities are not being used for its intended purpose?

@aswath No friend, not at all!

Just that blind bhakti is silly - just as silly as a 4-year old praying to a hand punm just because his mom was praying to all the deities all around!

I can see his side of the scene very well - a Hand pump has single leg, kind of a hand and something resembling a head - so he prayed! ๐Ÿ˜

When adults exhibit an adult version of this blind bhakti, it becomes dangerous, is what I was trying to say

@NSure Like I said, Prahalata's story
@aswath Rao Saab, the only part I remember about Prahlada's story is that he encountered Narasimha... Please elaborate on what you mean?

@NSure As a final straw the father asks in exasperation whether God is in that pillar; to which P responds saying he is in that pillar; he is in that splinter. Narashima appears when the father splits the pillar into two.

Pls don't take me seriously. I am just hassling you.

@aswath Ah, ok! I'm not hassled by my lack of knowledge of mythology, so I hope I didn't hassle you!!
