I don’t know how many of y’all have ever actually been in explicitly leftist spaces like #LeftBankBooks in #Seattle or #RedEmmasBookstore in #Baltimore, but there is an aura to these places that instantly relaxes me. The knowledge that these are co-ops and that the folks who work there share my goals of creating a world without capitalism and oppression seeps into me immediately. I’m planning to hit up the #AtlantaRadicalBookfair tomorrow and excited about that.

I wish there were more places like this in Georgia, but Trump 2020 signs almost outnumber residents here in the west metro area. Any explicitly leftist space out here would likely be targeted by all the protofascist and neofascist types in their enormous and perfectly clean pickup trucks.

I dreamt last night about two adjacent plots of property for sale: a house and a smallish, run-down building. In my dream, I planned to get a mortgage for both; the house to live in, and the other property...

...to renovate and turn into a community center by/for local leftists, and of course underprivileged community members. The idea jumped fully formed into my head, and there was a small pond behind these properties. That doesn’t have anything to do with politics, but the view was nice.

This was a good dream. It is a good dream.

Also, small correction, the #AtlantaRadicalBookfair is on Saturday, 5 October, not tomorrow, which is Friday.

I guess all of this is just to say that I want to engage in more generative direct action here in my community. Detractive action is obviously necessary, even including violence, but generative action is just as necessary. Perhaps even moreso, since generative direct action can fulfill people’s basic needs/rights of food, water, shelter, medicine, education. Detractive action obviously can secure these things and ensure the safety of marginalized folks, but without generative action...

...there isn’t much to secure and protect.

Anyway. I need to finish getting ready for my shitty wage labor job. We have an executive visit today and it will take all my self control not to enact some real fucking detractive action against some bourgeois motherfuckers who exploit my labor.

Thanks for reading. Death to oppression and capitalism, long live the revolution.

@Ethancdavenport this is 100% the dream. I want to start a free services community center so bad
@hummingrain well, Seattle already has a strong leftist culture and presence. You should go to Left Bank and see what organizing they’re already doing!

@Ethancdavenport Last time I was there I actually didn't see any obvious organizing stuff. D:

I should check again. I figure I must have missed a bulletin board or something...

@hummingrain they might not have anything posted, so talk to some of the worker-managers! Everybody was incredibly nice while I was there.
@Ethancdavenport I should give that a go. Last time I was there I was on a date and vaguely flustered because OMG BOOKSTORE combined with OMG date's legit cool with this??? So popping over there on my own sometime and asking sounds good
