Finished the missile launcher mounting, and refined the back - added a bumper, registration plate pocket, refined the trunk lid...
Alrighty, I gotta take a break now :D

Back at it!

I've created the front in line with my initial Grease Pencil sketch.

Also - modelled the trunk lid mechanism. Maybe that's unnecessary, but it makes the model more practical in my view :)

More detail for the turbo air intake.
Reshaped the back. Added lights.
Spoiler alert! :D Reshaped the back again - it was really messy!
Detailing the front wheels. Not sure how do the breaks work and if they should be visible here...
I think I'll try to model the suspension too.
Overhauled the front wheel.
Wheel tweaks.
Detailing the front spike assembly. Holes are there to reduce weight, and make it looks cooler :D
Trying to make something that looks like suspension, transmission and torque transfer... I've got no idea how cars work, so take it with a bag of salt...
Added mirrors, blinkers, and more detail to the body. Since the overall shape is "locked" I can increase the polycount to hone the detail.
More detail, smoother curves and some beevels!
Experimenting with a new turbo air intake.
I think I got the hood and the air intake done! They've got more character now :)
More tweaks of the air intake, and the hood.
Last one today - gotta go to sleep now!

I've been working offline today, so here's an update!

Added detail to the body, the roof - created proper topology for the sunroof (I'm proud of myself!) - more detail inside and on the places the door fit.

Improved the door - added a frame for the window, more detail on the inner side too. Added the window itself. Also some changes beneath the car - added some detail, and parts there.
I forgot that I've detailed the front a bit (added air vents) - and also overhauled the engine area - it's not intended to be an important part, but I wanted to try and make something more or less believable there - added some pipes and cables, oil and brake liquid canisters, the battery, a fan in front of the engine. I also mounted the suspension pistons into the car frame and reinforced that so it doesn't look weedy.
If you're a car engineer - you're gonna cringe...
I forgot!
I've also shifted the door line forward so they aren't as long as before - seemed awkward. I also disabled the tyre-squishing Lattice modifiers as in a game that'd have to be done dynamically (if at all), or it'd look super weird. had fun implementing that though :)
Some minor changes in the trunk area to compensate for rear wheel cavities. I'm starting to see the end of the lowpoly phase!
Added a fuel inlet, and a support for the insane exhaust
pipes. Bolted to the body, welded to the pipe. We'll see how it'll go.
Time to overhaul the missile launcher. Starting with the missiles.
Created a new steering wheel - the Batmobile-style one didn't really feel at place here.
Also - made a new rocket launcher!
Looks like ratchet straps are the way to go here!
Ok, not *just* ratchet straps!

Well, that's it for today!
I've fixed the rocket launcher support rig inside of the car's cabin (fell apart a bit after the change I made to the roof).

I'm thinking about removing the machine gun, because driving on a desert without a windshield would be quite harsh. I'm thinking about maybe making it remotely aimable or just side-mounted and completely stationary. if you have any ideas - let me know :)

Oh - I forgot! I've also added springs to the pneumatic(?) suspention elements.
Here's a quick video about this project, showing off today's final state:

Battle Car Game Model (Blender 2.80) Portfolio WIP 2019-09-14

I've got an idea - I've missed these exhaust dampeners (?). Also: improved the exhaust pipe side mount. It looked too weedy before.
I'm playing FlatOut 2 while making this, so I'm seeing what breaks off when you hit cars against each other too much...

This time I'm *really* done for today.

Good night!

Quick concept.
I've realized parts of he body outling the wheels are misshapen, so I've created circles to aid me fix that and repositioned the verticies to perfect circles, now I gotta fix the third dimension of that...
I've decided to remove the machinegun. I didn't really find a good place for it, and the missle batter provides enough firepower already. So I've added a windsheild!
Added a door handle. I think I'm coming to an end of the lowpoly stage...
Here's a missile launcher control panel!
Lowpoly feature freeze! :D
I've fixed inconsistent normals, I've set smooth shading and refined it with shading, will now proceed to UV unwrap the whole model...
I need to decide how many separate texture paces to use and how to divide it all...

Well, had to break the lowpoly freeze - to refine just the gear handle and the handbrake handle a bit...
I'v also detailed the seats. a bit. The car has a very low profile - the seats are very low above the floor, yet there's not much headroom - that's gotta stay like that, because altering it now would break too many things...
And also - no one noticed :D

Now I'm going to start the UV unwrapping process...

Well, I had to connect the roof to the rest of the body - it was completely separate, so making a smooth transition would not work. That'd look odd. But now it's done! Also - I'm removing a lot of unneeded geometry, optimizing the triangle count.
Unwrapped the front wheel!
UV unwrapped the main body
I've UV-unwrapped all the things!
Now it's time to group the meshes into materials and lay them out in shared textures spaces,- effectively deciding on the final texel density of each part.

Looks like it's made from newspapers.

I've published the model to Sketchfab!

I'll update it once the materials and textures are ready.

I'm working on the highpoly model!
Here's the front wheel WIP.
Designing tyre stencils.
Designs applied to the tyre!
Projection-painted some images of rust onto the flange - and shaded!

Tweaked the flange materials. I think it's looking a bit better. Gotta weather the tyre now, maybe add some sand, dust, dirt, catpiss...

Check this out - this is the highpoly front wheel textured.

Today I went on a bike raid fro textures with a fellow 3D artistst - I used rusty metal, sand, dirt and other pictures here to build the materials and add small detail. It's amazing how much more life these give - I was doing all of that with procedural noise before, and reaching such richness was very difficult.

I'll need to bake this to lowpoly now...

@unfa - that looks a lot like the wheel of my mercedes.
@unfa the tire looks too new compared to the wheel itself
@drq Yes, I haven't weathered it yet - will do!
