"they recontextualized this highly #psychedelic thing [#VR] with a very different #SetAndSetting:

Instead of the #counterculture #SetAndSetting and 'how we gonna connect together as people and design reality',

It was the #Internet SetAndSetting and 'how we gonna use this technology to extract value from people and places in order to grow the #stockmarket forever'.

We are living on a psychedelic substrate, with a SetAndSetting of extractive #CorporateCapitalism."

@josemurilo This is how I see the history of the entire #Web, tbh: a #Utopian project locked in tension with the forces of #capital since its inception. Is there/can there be such a thing as #Federated #VR spaces? Is this where the #Fediverse is heading?
@Flophouse_Sam
Those are very good questions. As you've said, the web history does not help us being hopeful. But one could argue that the #Fediverse is our best last hope.
@josemurilo I'm becoming fascinated by how social media reduces our interactions to a text and how this nonlinear, atemporal public record alters context and impacts meaning/interpretation. I wonder if federated VR spaces could restore a level of humanity by moving beyond text and into more direct communication/interaction.
