@gael

It's very difficult to buy a new phone for #/e/

Would be nice to have some recommendation about what phone would still be supported in future (because it's friendly to developper ?) within models currently in shops (most models from #lineageos15.1 are out of shops already)

Maybe 4 models to advice would be nice, per price range.

I just bought (yesterday) a redmi note 5 for 180€.
I will install
#/e/ when I can unlock bootloader (must wait 360 hours).
This phone seems to have a good support for alternative roms.

@tuxfanou what is the difference between note 5 and "note 5 pro" which is the name of the supported model?

The 15 days delay to unlock the bootloader seems like an half closed doors to roms no? What about support in the future (2years) ? Does Xiaomi releases security fixes in the drivers like Google does ?

Tell le once you ported it your feedback. I'm interested in.

@tuxicoman Thanks for the suggestion, good idea! Also we will probably offer a small range of flashed devices for sale in 2019

@tuxicoman

Some items to think out of the box:

Sony Xperia X/XA2 with SailfishOS
Not an Android, but can run most android apps and is the most hacker friendly one so far (Linux/Mer/Qt)

Librem5 in a few months: First phone ever to run a vanilla Linux Distro
