I've been a Mac user for 13 years, and I've flirted with Linux a few times. But now Apple hardware REALLY doesn't do anything for me, and the software is meh. I still think the iPhone is best for me, but I don't use many apps that are Mac-only cross platform anymore. I'm seriously considering building a PC, and maybe dual-booting Linux. Talk me into/out of this. Boosts for more input welcome.

@kcnightfang that sounds like one hell of a good plan to me. :) #yaylinux #yayselfbuilding

(fwiw, i switched from win7 to linux, due to win10. i initially had a win7/linux dualboot setup, just to feel safe, but quickly abandoned it after never having booted into windows after half a year)

@gekitsu I actually want Windows, to have access to more gaming options, but I don't really want to deal with Windows daily. Having to use it on POS systems reminds me that it's still not a great system in all the small ways.
@gekitsu Of course, I'm still months/a year a way from saving up to build a system. But I'll get there.

@kcnightfang oh, i didn’t mean to imply to forego dual-booting. there’s plenty of good reasons to do so!

just a piece of anecdata on the possibility for the windows partition to end up used way less than anticipated. :) (i was very surprised myself)

@gekitsu I intend basically to only boot into it to play Hearthstone or stream, and ignore it otherwise. I used Linux before just enough to know that I don't really need any software on it.
@kcnightfang heck yeah, when you’re already invested in a game that won’t run on linux, that *is* a damn solid reason to keep a windows on the side.
@gekitsu Totally. I mostly play on my phone, but if I want to stream, I need to build a PC, or pony up $2500 for a Mac that might do it ok-ish lol.
@kcnightfang or get that fancy(?), non-upgradeable(!) mid-range radeon in a box for an additional 700 USD!
@gekitsu That only works with the right cables, and then only sometimes if it's close enough, and the moon phase allows it!
