I signed up for #TIDAL a few days ago.

Today I'm ashamed.

I jumped the Spotify train a couple of years ago. I discovered lots of new interesting music. I bought expensive #Sonos speakers. But in the end, I couldn't listen to music the way I did when I was young. Concentrated, totally immersed in the music. I could not longer hear all the little details. I found it difficult to follow just one instrument.

I thought it was me. I thought it was me getting old and not having the same ears as I had when I was young.

Turns out it was lossy compression.

With #TIDAL's lossless compression I can hear all the details again. I can hear singers breathing between phrases. I can hear the crystal clear clinging of plectrums against strings of steel. I can hear the wooden sound of the double bass.

@bluebirch That's fair only when the source material is of high quality. No FLAC can give me crystal clear sound in Chopin's First Concerto played by #Gilels with #Ormandy and Philadelphia symphony. The quality of music is stunning, but the quality of the recording is rather poor.
@SeventhMagpie True – but with #FLAC you can actually hear that the recording is bad.
@bluebirch Not a consolation at all. :)
@SeventhMagpie Perhaps not, but it is a proof of proper sound quality…
