Today me and @Loa set out on a challenge in Oxygen Not Included.

We are playing "together", but separate, both on the same seed with the same settings!

The settings and seed were:

862994103
weak
pessimistic
regular

Each custom setting in order.

I was a bit too tired last night to actually follow up with what happened!

So both of us were on the new Expressive Update, which was interesting. Neither of us had played with the new updates to Morale yet.

There's been a recurring theme before that Loa is 100 times better than me at this game, and that his dupes never die.

But something weird happened last night. Let me tell you what was weird, about my base, I'm expecting Loa to make his own updates soon.

I knew that keeping morale up was important, and not promoting people to new roles too quick, before you can keep up with good food etc.

So, focused on making bedrooms, washrooms, great messhall to keep morale stable, but also researching the furniture and decorations fairly early.

I also use Shine Bugs as natural light, so I could grow a few Bristle Berries, but also their natural decor is faaab

Together with the shine bugs I would also add an Algae Terrarium for oxygen, as it's important to be able to breath in this game.

Oh, I should point out here that early on I always cover up as much of the starting Oxylite as possible, to save it for when I need it. It's just a bit of a trick, to have reserves for when you need it.

Anyways, the Algae Terrarium has a lot of perks to it.

- It doesn't use electricity (compared to the Algae Deoxydizer and late game Electrolyzer)

- It can produce extra oxygen if lit (44 instead of 40)

- It can remove Carbon Dioxide from the base, so it's beneficial to keep them above a level where you want CO2 to still be active.

I did run the Deoxydizer for a little while as well, because I needed "a lot" of oxygen.

The deoxydizer stops running if pressure gets too high, the algae terrariums do not. This can be both a boon and a bane.

Anyways, I somehow ended up with a lot more oxygen in my base that I've probably ever had in any ONI game before.

What else could've caused it?

One thing is, that I had a moderate amount of polluted water bottles (they get bottled when wiped up), which in turn creates polluted oxygen.

Polluted oxygen does rise within your base, so if you build it in a way that air can easily flow, it will rise to the top (just below hydrogen).

I started digging into the slime biome, without actually digging the slime, to get to the cold biome or get some fishies. This is a great resource for free oxygen

But it's just full of SlimeLung you say, well not all polluted oxygen has slimelung. So you gotta be careful. When you don't dig into the actual slime you're mostly safe from the slimelung! Until you dig into the wrong place.

Anyways, sometimes polluted oxygen just keeps being produced at high quantities, giving you plenty of convert-able oxygen, with the Air Deoderizer.

Honestly, for a moment I even believed that I had a bug running somewhere, but even after restarting the game it was still functional.

Aaanyways, eventually I ended up being able to dig into two cold biomes, for Sleet Wheat! Sleet Wheat can really help bump up your morale, so you can start promoting people. I'm still very careful with the promotions though, but we eventually ended up with a rancher, a lvl 2 digger, and lvl 2 researcher

I'm not running on plumbing or any gas pipes yet. which is good, because they kinda end up making the game laggy AF after a while.

We got good food, solid set up. And scheduling.

Also, we used two Neural vacillator, on our first 2 dupes (I've been giving them numbers), and both got Sunny Disposition.

I have yet to have any great disasters. To be continued! ...

Making the most of the games we enjoy together!
I wanted to play on a harder difficult but as it would seem my play-through didn't turn out so well.
I always like to try out new things when I start a new seed on ONI.
But this time it was a disaster. Built my meal lice at the top of my base, which didn't have enough atmosphere, and caused the food crisis of cycle30~. Lost half my dupes, RIP.
I thought it was all sorted, when I found some easy to reach mushrooms, then a dark cloud snuck into my colony. Slimelung flu of cycle 60~! Slimelung! Every where! All far corners, no dupes where safe from contracting this "slightly" deadly disease. Thank God I already had a med bay build and no one died this time.
Looks like I've set myself up with another world ending scenario, trying to make big power, towards big O2. Hold tight guys, this could be the end! Almost at cycle 100. this is only the early game :D
@maloki told me there was some cool geysers but who has time for that when your dupes have nothing to breath, and still chomping on LiceLoaf. ~
