Budapest, 1967. Another wonderful photo from Zofia Rydet. These people would have seen a lot in their lifetime: war, revolution, dictatorship, and no doubt a fair amount of poverty. No wonder they look suspicious and wary.

Budapest, 1967. I have become quite enamoured with the photos of Zofia Rydet. Her portrayal of everyday Hungarians in everyday situations have a directness and an authenticity that is refreshing. Maybe as a woman photographer she had the advantage of appearing less intrusive or threatening - much like Vivian Maier in the US I guess, and thus was able to closer to her subjects.

Budapest, 1967. These days, the Main Market Hall in Budapest is a place where you can find both locals and tourists mingling as one. Not back in the 1960’s though. It would have only locals back then. Like this one, giving the camera a rather watchful look.

Budapest, 1967. Another wonderful photo by the Polish photographer Zofia Rydet of everyday people in Hungary. This rather well-dressed man looks pretty weary as he rides either to, or from, work on the cogwheel railway in Buda.
