My takeaway from the article is that they kept diamond prices artificially inflated by successively advertising diamonds as wedding rings, in market after market. Since Africa knows better, diamonds have run out of runway and the owner of DeBeers is selling.

I noticed that lab-grown (synthetic) diamonds were coming down in price, & just got a ring in the mail today. I'm sending it back - they're so clean and bright, they look like CZ! So similar rings are one-tenth the price, but too big & flashy for me. Never been much of a diamond guy, myself, anyway; I like colored stones.
