La guerra di Viktor Orbán a Volodymyr Zelensky non si ferma. Dopo aver bloccato, con l’aiuto del premier slovacco Robert Fico, l’invio del prestito da 90 miliardi all’Ucraina e il 20esimo pacchetto di sanzioni per la Russia, il primo ministro ungherese, a ormai pochi giorni dalle elezioni nel suo Paese, sferra un altro colpo a Kiev. È stato lui, in prima persona, ad annunciare che Budapest sospenderà progressivamente le forniture di gas all’Ucraina, in risposta allo stop ai flussi di petrolio russo attraverso l’oleodotto Druzhba, danneggiato dai bombardamenti. “Per spezzare il blocco petrolifero e garantire la sicurezza dell’approvvigionamento energetico ungherese, ora sono necessarie nuove misure”, ha detto il leader di Fidesz in un video postato sul suo profilo Facebook.
A niente sono servite le rassicurazioni di Zelensky e degli esperti dell’Unione europea inviati in Ucraina per verificare l’entità dei danni alle pipeline, così come le tempistiche di ripristino stimate in circa un mese e mezzo: il primo ministro, in vista del voto del 12 aprile che lo vedrà partire ampiamente sfavorito rispetto al suo principale avversario, Peter Magyar, ha optato per una strategia radicale nei confronti del Paese sotto attacco delle truppe di Mosca. Forte anche del supporto di Donald Trump: è un “leader forte che si batte per il suo Paese e la sua gente – ha detto il tycoon – È un vero amico, un combattente e un vincente. Ha il mio completo e totale sostegno“.

After blocking the sending of the €90 billion loan to Ukraine and the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, with the help of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, the Hungarian Prime Minister, just days before elections in his country, is striking another blow at Kyiv. He himself announced that Budapest will progressively suspend gas supplies to Ukraine, in response to the halt to Russian oil flows through the Druzhba pipeline, damaged by bombings. “To break the oil blockade and ensure Hungary’s energy security, new measures are now necessary,” the Fidesz leader said in a video posted on his Facebook profile.
Zelenskyy’s reassurances and those of European Union experts sent to Ukraine to assess the extent of the pipeline damage, as well as the estimated repair timelines of around six and a half weeks, were of no use: in view of the April 12 vote, which will see him widely defeated compared to his main rival, Peter Magyar, the Prime Minister opted for a radical strategy towards the country under attack by Russian troops. He is also bolstered by the support of Donald Trump: “It is a strong leader who fights for his country and his people – the tycoon said – He is a true friend, a fighter and a winner. He has my full and total support.”
