Often, a simple docker compose up -d helps to spin up the services so the devcontainer only has to be attached.
@hbons I once wrote a single line nested if - elif - else script for my custom zed coderunner.
And now, a month later, I'm using the editor for my project, and every time I look into the script, I'm like "WTF! why?".
You've to see it to understand the insanity.
xcede now uses your choice of yaml, toml or json for config files. Plus, profiles! No more mutant bash thing (well, the old config file is still supported for now).
There are other handy changes too, and don't forget the new fast build option.
Thanks to a work-in-progress Homebrew cask by Andi Péter (https://codeberg.org/GramEditor/gram/issues/15#issuecomment-11159294), I was just able to quickly install and play with the new Gram code editor (https://codeberg.org/GramEditor/gram#gram) – a fork of Zed with all the bullshit (AI, telemetry, etc.) removed that looks like it could be great editor to recommend both for people just learning to code (as I was, recently, to recommend for people learning Kitten¹) as well as seasoned programmers who don’t want to work in terminal.
And, as a bonus, it actually has a Helix Editor mode so if that’s your daily driver (raises hand), you can just use it like Helix (i.e., Helix Editor in a graphical shell).
If you want to try Andi’s build (only works on Mac at the moment and remember, you have to trust Andi):
brew tap petrosz007/gram-tap https://codeberg.org/Petrosz007/homebrew-gram-tap.git
brew install --cask gram
PS. You can follow the author of Gram, @krig, on the fediverse :)

@zed are you seriously perpetuating the fiction that forced arbitration is better for individuals, and that "speculative aggregate litigation" is a real threat?
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/50568
Your terms of service already have the standard disclaimer of warranty, this is just brazen anti-consumer policy. I was hoping your IDE would be one of few pieces of software that I actually like, rather than merely tolerate while I pray for a better alternative to come around. I still hold out some hope for that, so please remove your class action waiver and arbitration clause from your terms of service.

Reproduction steps The latest update to the Terms of Service for Zed introduce a class action waiver (which legally prohibits you from joining a class action lawsuit against Zed) and forced binding...
I still do not understand why this company and text editor got so much hype all of a sudden everywhere while people still kept ignoring other many years old editors, but anyway, as usual VC funding is coming to fuck you all

We Overhauled Our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy - Another VC funded bait and switch

Following in the footsteps of Hashicorp, Hudson, etc. Zed has chosen to cash in the good will of its now substantial user base and start going to full corporate enshittification. Among other things like minimum age nonsense, they have also added binding mandatory opt-OUT arbitration. I find such agreements very troubling, because it gives up public funded dispute resolution for private which nearly unanimously benefits larger entities, it lowers transparency to near zero, and eliminates the abilities to act as a class and to appeal. But I worry most will just accept it, as is the norm. You can however opt out by emailing [email protected] with full legal name, the email address associated with your account, and a statement that you want to opt out. I’ll just consider my days of advocating for Zed as an interesting new editor over and go back to Neovim bliss.
Hi all. I’m Adam (adenoz), and this is my first time on the Fediverse.
I’m an Australian data professional, and I’m typically always working on at least one side project at any one time. I won’t be writing about my $work, but I will happily write about my various side projects and interests.
I really enjoy working with #duckdb and #ggplot2 as well as finding ways to use #rustlang and tools written in rust. I have a blog built with #zola where I’ll keep writing longer form things.
I like keeping up with global events and geopolitical related matters. I especially like combining those themes with data. Simple examples of interesting things include GDELT, news text like in Factiva, and Google Trends data.
At the moment, I’m writing a native mac app that will be a query and analytics studio. That’s all I have for now on that, though more will come in due course.
I like #linux, using #nushell and #HelixEditor, as well as the great software on #macos. My current favourite IDE is #zededitor. Sometimes (often?), I’m torn between Linux and Mac for very different reasons.
I’m now rambling, so I’ll stop there for now.
If you're building iOS and Mac apps in Zed with xcede, builds have always been slower than in Xcode. Well, no more! There's a new option to make your builds just as fast.
This makes me unreasonably happy. It's just nicer.
Also, there's better support for Mac apps now.
