In keeping with the USian habit of refusing to use a sensible system of measurement and instead using Olympic swimming pools, Empire State buildings, African elephants, and the like, I find myself comparing medium scale objects (things between say 5 meters and 50 meters in size) to the diameter of my yurt. "Ok, so Tylosaurus ranged from 12 to 15 meters in length, so, uh, that's 1⅓ to 1⅔ yurts" or "that WW2 fighter's wingspan would fit within the yurt but the tail would stick out the door." #Yurt
