Yosemite Falls in Black and White II
This image shows what is known as the beard of Yosemite Falls. The frozen ice that freezes along the sides of the fall overnight. As the day moves on and the day warms up the beard starts melting of and can completely melt by the end of the day.

Yosemite Falls in Black and White
Yosemite Valley and Yosemite Falls is viewed by more than 3 million people every year. Most visit the park during the spring, summer and fall, while relatively few visit during the winter.
It can be cold, snowy, rainy or warm and sunny all depending on what is blowing in off of the Pacific 4 to 8 hours earlier.

Lower Yosemite Falls
Lower Yosemite Falls thunders through rugged granite, its mist rising in a luminous veil that softens the surrounding cliffs and greenery. This photograph captures the raw power and serene beauty of Yosemite’s iconic cascade, offering a timeless statement piece for collectors who appreciate dramatic natural landscapes.

Yosemite's Splendor
Winter in Yosemite can be a real adventure. You can't really ever count on anything except that whatever conditions you have at any given moment most likely won't be what you have later. Storms move in and out of the valley on a regular basis.
This was actually captured during one of those periods where the storms stayed away and blue sky was the story of the weekend.

Winter at Yosemite Falls
As I've written about in many of my images Yosemite National Park is truly one of the most magical places on earth in my humble opinion. Yosemite Falls s the center piece of Yosemite Valley being the tallest waterfall in North America and the 2nd tallest in the world.
This image was captured after a late winter storm passed through the valley.

Not just a great valley, but a shrine to human foresight, the strength of granite, the power of glaciers, the persistence of life, and the tranquility of the High Sierra.

First protected in 1864, Yosemite National Park is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more.

Waterfall Glow
I've spent many hours at the bottom of Yosemite Falls watching as the water crashes down onto the rocks and boulders at the base of the falls.
This was the first time that I was able to see the rainbow at the very bottom of the lower falls. In the foreground you can see hints of green in the mist fading to yellow giving the appearance of a glow coming out of the mist.

Portrait of Yosemite Falls
One thing you will never see on a busy summer day in Yosemite Valley is the frozen beard that develops over night as the mist from the falls gets blown against the granite and freezes against the side of the cliffs that make up Yosemite Valley.
Another thing that you may never see in the summer is an empty hiking path to the base of Yosemite Falls.
