In 1890, due in large part to the efforts of Muir and Johnson, an act of Congress created #Yosemite National Park. Muir was also personally involved in the creation of Sequoia , Mount Rainier , Petrified Forest and Grand Canyon national parks. Muir deservedly is often called the "Father of Our National Park System ".

I shot Upper Yosemite Falls when the mist seemed to roar off the granite - portraying the clash between sheer rock and wild water. The vertical scale and emerald foreground convey the park’s raw energy.

I wanted to portray the force that carves stone — Upper Yosemite Falls reduced to light, shadow, and motion in black and white. Clouds and cliff textures read differently in mono; the fall becomes a single relentless line.

Clouds Over the Valley

So many time I've gone to the valley. So many times I've seen a clear blue sky as I round the turn just before this turnout in the road. So many times I've pulled over here and taken pictures that are beautiful, yet they look just like everyone else's.
Rarely do I come around this corner and see something that looks like this.
