YJA Guerrillas Target Turkish Occupation Forces in South Kurdistan
The Press Center of the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) said in a statement that women guerrillas targeted the Turkish army in South Kurdistan. The statement also reported on the attacks carried out by the Turkish army against the Medya Defense Areas.
According to the statement, guerrillas from the Free Women’s Units (YJA Star) deployed on the western front of the Zap region targeted a Turkish army howitzer on Wednesday and thus repelled an attack on Girê Amêdî. In addition, enemy positions in the resistance area were fired upon by the fighters with heavy weapons.
In nearby Girê Cûdî, an attempt by enemy troops to advance on the guerrilla tunnels was also stopped by the YJA Star on Wednesday.
In the Metîna region, the fighters destroyed a surveillance camera installed by the occupying forces in the Serê Metîna resistance area on the same day.
And on Monday, according to the HPG, soldiers in open areas were shot at with heavy weapons from the women’s guerrillas.
Attacks by the Turkish army
Meanwhile, the Turkish army continued to use prohibited explosives against guerrilla tunnels. The HPG recorded eight operations against tunnel systems in Girê Cûdî, Girê Amêdî and Şêlazê this week.
Turkish fighter jets carried out 19 air strikes on areas in the Xakurke, Gare, Metîna and Zap regions between 28 and 30 January. The Girê Bahar resistance area was bombed nine times by attack helicopters on Tuesday.
DAANES Rejects New Syrian Regime
The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES) made a statement regarding the ‘Victory Congress’ held in Damascus a few days ago and the decisions taken at the congress.
The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria stated, “Developments concerning the Syrian people continue to unfold at a great pace following the fall of the Baath regime. A meeting was held in Damascus recently amid expectations for the establishment of a ‘National Congress’ to take many decisions jointly, especially on important issues such as making a constitution, creating an electoral system and organizing presidential elections in line with the call and demand of the Syrian people. Representatives of many armed groups in Syria took part in this meeting where a series of decisions were taken. As the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, we emphasize that these decisions should have been taken at a ‘National Congress’ with the participation of everyone.”
The statement further said the following: “We criticize such meetings. In particular, we do not accept the presence of some terrorists who have the blood of the Syrian people on their hands. Ehmed Ihsan Fayad al-Hayis (Abu Hatem Shaqra), who brutally murdered Hevrin Xelef, Secretary General of the Future Syria Party, is on the glabal wanted list on terrorism charges. Mohammad al-Jasim, the head of the Abu Amsha group, complicit in many crimes committed in Afrin, was also present at this meeting. We emphasize once again that this meeting is not legitimate and does not represent the Syrian people.
Any decision to be taken in Syria without a National Congress including all political circles will be incomplete. The most appropriate solution to end the instability in Syria is a national congress. The exclusion or suspension of any party in Syria from the congress will be no different from the practices of the former regime. On this basis, we once again call on the government in Damascus to refrain from such mistakes. Everyone must take part in the making of the new constitution in Syria.
The government in Damascus must not allow hate speech against equal life in Syria. Steps that lead to the manipulation of one side or nation must be prevented. A few days ago, such hate speeches were expressed during a demonstration in Umayyad Square in Damascus. This kind of rhetoric prevents the establishment of a democratic government in Syria.
As the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, we once again call for the unity of Syria as part of our national liberation perspective. We emphasize once again that everyone in Syria must have their say about the future of Syria.”

The Press Center of the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) said in a statement that the two guerrillas of the Free Women’s Units (YJA Star) were followers of the “Jin Jiyan Azadî” philosophy and lived with the aim of making the 21st century the century of women. “We bow to their legacy with respect and gratitude and promise to make their dreams come true,” said the HPG. The following information was given in the obituary:
Code name: Ekin Dilda
First and last name: Zeliha Mahçup
Place of birth: Erzîrom
Names of mother and father: Meryem – Mehmet
Date and place of death: October 6, 2024 / Xakurke
Code name: Mîtra Manî
First and last name: Zeynep Aslan
Place of birth: Şirnex
Names of mother and father: Seymen – Mehmet Seyfettin
Date and place of death: October 6, 2024 / Xakurke
Ekin Dilda
Ekin Dilda was born in Qereyazî in the Erzîrom province and belonged to the Berazî tribe. She grew up in an environment close to the PKK and joined the guerrillas in 2015. After her training, she took part in the fight against ISIS. “At a time when the ISIS gangs were attacking our people to commit genocide, she did not hesitate for a moment and participated in the resistance as an apoist militant,” the HPG said in the statement, adding that “she distinguished herself with her courage in actions against the Islamists and was an uncompromising advocate of the women’s liberation ideology.”
When she later returned to the mountains, she participated in the resistance against the Turkish occupation attacks on the Medya Defense Areas as a guerrilla of the YJA Star. Her last area of operation was Xakurke, where she performed various tasks and worked on the construction of tunnel facilities, among other things. Ekin Dilda was killed in an attack by the Turkish army on 6 October 2024.
Mîtra Manî
Mîtra Manî was born in Cizîr in the province of Şirnex and was socialized in an environment shaped by the Kurdish freedom movement.
As an adolescent, she became active in the youth movement and was involved in cultural work. Because she used songs to express both the pain and the joy of life in society, she experienced repression by the Turkish state. She was arrested and tortured.
In 2015, she went to the mountains and joined the guerrillas. Her decision to engage in armed struggle came at a time when the Turkish state unilaterally ended the talks on a solution to the Kurdish question and began to implement its concept of annihilation. Mîtra Manî last fought in Xakurke, where she was killed in a Turkish attack on October 6, 2024, along with Ekin Dilda.

“As YJA Star, We Are the Defense Army of All Oppressed Women” — PKK
Guerrillas from YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops) drew attention to violence against women in the patriarchal system on the occasion of 25 November, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Emphasising that millions of women are subjected to massacre, rape, harassment and violence in the patriarchal system every day, YJA Star guerrillas stated that this brutality against women is made a part of life and is wanted to be legitimised.
Noting that Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan exposed this mentality with his ideology and philosophy and paved the way for women’s struggle for freedom, the guerrillas stated that the women’s army was established on this basis.
Stating that they have assumed a pioneering role in every aspect of life and war, the women guerrillas underlined that systematic violence can only end through the joint organisation and self-defence of women.
The guerrillas said that policies of femicide are being carried out against women in many parts of the world, and that these policies can be overcome through resistance and solidarity.
YJA Star guerrillas underlined that they struggle not only for the women of Kurdistan, but also for every woman who is oppressed and subjected to violence, giving the following message on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November: “YJA Star is an army defending all oppressed women, women in Kurdistan and Turkey in the first place, as well as Afghanistan, India and Europe. We will defeat the invaders with the slogan ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ (Woman, Life, Freedom). We follow the path of selfless women comrades such as Asya, Rûken and Sar, who sacrificed their lives for freedom without a moment’s hesitation. As YJA Star fighters, we will strike a blow to the male-dominated system in every action of ours. We call on all young women to participate in the ranks of YJA Star, to join the life beautified by the Apoist philosophy and to crown the struggle with success.”

Kobanê is one of the places that wrote an epic with its valiant women and sons. It wrote not only its own epic, but also the epic of the peoples’ freedom. Ararat Tolhildan (Sara Cezayir), one of the heroic YJA Star guerrillas, opened her eyes in Kobanê, the symbol of resistance and victory. Her guerrilla journey, which started in Garê, continued as a strong fighter in Xakurkê. She fell a martyr whilst fighting against fascism and colonialism with her heart, soul and whole self.
Her personality shaped with the Kurdish culture
She grew up in the bosom of the revolution, witnessing the epics of the heroes who led the revolution. Her family, patriotic and loyal to their values, had shaped her personality with the Kurdish culture. She enlightened her heart with the light of the children of the fire and the Sun who fought against the dark Ehrimans of our age. As her heart was enlightened, her soul opened its wings to freedom. She was a child of revolution and always carried the spirit of revolution in her heart. She illuminated her path in the light of Rêber Apo’s (Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s) philosophy. As the darkness wanted to reign in the lands of Kurdistan, these lands were illuminated by the fire lit by the children of the Sun in the mountains. Ararat was a woman who grew up with this light and enlightened her heart. As her heart was enlightened, she revealed the colours of women whose consciousness of freedom became revolutionary, who fought and became free by fighting.
Wholeheartedly devoted to the path of truth
The comradeship of the PKK and the stance of the women comrades attracted Ararat’s attention. In particular, the struggle of the women guerrillas based on their own strength and the fear they strike in the hearts of all reactionaries arouse her admiration. On the one hand, the slave markets of the mercenaries that surpass the middle age. On the other hand, the reality of Rêber Apo, who created the free woman. The more she sees these inhuman attacks, the more her anger and hatred increases, and for this reason she wants to take part in the position of freedom created by women. Seeing herself as a part of the revolution taking place in Rojava, Ararat seeks to recreate herself by constantly living with the enthusiasm of the revolution. Believing in Rêber Apo’s paradigm, she actively carries out youth work. If the darkness is to be enlightened and all the ugliness that enslaves is to be destroyed, it will only be through Rêber Apo’s philosophy and ideology. She devotes herself wholeheartedly to this path of truth.
Journey to he free mountains to wage a stronger struggle
Ararat turns her face to the free mountains to wage a stronger struggle on this path of truth to which she devoted herself. She wants to meet with every inch of soil of her country, to recreate herself in the mountains. The mountains are the sacred lands where she will create herself with the colours of freedom. She wants to fight in the mountains and fight against the Ehrimans of the age as a guerrilla. Guerrilla is the name of holiness in Kurdistan. Being a woman guerrilla means meeting with your own essence in the place of goddesses and recreating life. Ararat walks in the mountains as a freedom fighter with great excitement and enthusiasm. Her meeting with the mountains, her desire to create herself by fighting in the mountains is quite strong. For her, the mountains are a sacred place where women create their own sociality and liberate their society by defending it. As she integrates with the mountains, she feels that her soul becomes even freer every day.
Taking success as a basis
She makes her first practice in the mountains in the Garê area. Garê gives Ararat a lot of experience in guerrilla work. She prepares for more difficult areas. Her self-sacrificing participation in life, her courage and self-confidence develop her in a short time and make her an experienced guerrilla. She becomes a young woman who quickly forms herself in the liberating mountains and the simple beauty of nature, creating life with the energy of nature. Thanks to her simple and modest approach, she creates harmony in her relations with her comrades and brings together all the beauties of comradeship in the PKK. She takes success as a basis in all her endeavours.
Walking with stronger steps every day
She takes life in its entirety. As she develops herself in Rêber Apo’s philosophy and ideology, she succeeds in life and war. She is aware that the isolation imposed by the enemy can be responded to not only by actions but also by creating the free woman identity that Rêber Apo wants to create at every moment of life. With this awareness, she struggles to create a free woman’s identity by deepening on the line of the free woman. She walks with stronger steps every day against all difficulties in her struggle and march for freedom. To fight against the invaders is to protect her people, her land, her identity and to defend her honour. Ararat grows a great anger in her heart against immoral attacks. To fight against an army that has no sense of humanity and morality and to uproot them from these lands is to defend the honour of her people and humanity. With this determination, she becomes competent in war.
Fighting against fascism and colonialism with her heart, soul and whole self
She fights against fascism and colonialism with her heart, soul and whole self. If fighting is liberation, she is a Kurdish woman who liberates herself a little more every day with her fight. Her guerrilla journey starts in Garê and continues as a strong fighter in Xakurkê. She becomes a militant who acts with a great sense of responsibility to play a strong role in this war and leads her comrades with her stance in life. As a result of the occupation attacks in 2024, she joins the caravan of martyrs. As a YJA Star guerrilla representing the pioneering female identity of the new era, she once again shows the invincibility of the Apoist spirit with her stance and courage in this epic resistance.

Delal Xezal Akıl was born into a patriotic family in Cizîra Botan region, the heart of Kurdistan. She grew up with the Botan culture in Cizre, the city of uprising, and witnessed the oppression of the enemy at an early age. Rebelling against oppression and injustice is in the spirit of Botan women. With this stance, they led many rebellions and actions and became the symbol of war in Kurdistan. For them, remaining silent against oppression is the biggest betrayal. Giving the necessary answer to the enemy is their most important and honourable duty. For them, the way to honourable life passes through the mountains of Kurdistan. For this reason, they turn to the mountains and the philosophy of Rêber Apo (Leader Abdullah Öcalan).
2015 is a very meaningful and important year in the history of the Freedom Movement. A year full of heroism and struggle. In those days when the heart of every Kurdish youth beat for freedom, Delal ran after freedom by listening to the voice of her heart. As a runner who has locked herself in success, she took a step towards the truth and knocked on the door of revolutionaries. She took her first step there and never agreed to take a step back. She participated in the Self-Government Resistance with a confident stance. To her, Martyr Commander Delal Amed’s call was the voice of freedom, and based on this call, she joined the ranks of YPS (Civil Defense Units) in 2015.
She joined Zeryan Denîz Amed, one of the pioneers of the urban war, and learned from her the stance of a warrior woman. Together with her commander, she witnessed every step and found answers to the question of how to live a real life. Delal, who joined the war with the strength and courage she learnt from her commander, took the name of her nephew Aram (Agit Akıl), who had been martyred in the 2015 Cizre resistance, and became Zarîn Aram. Having gained a lot of experience in a short time, Zarîn Aram took to the mountains in 2016 to avenge her comrades who were martyred in Cizre. In 2016, Zarîn travelled to the Besta region and was impressed by the comradeship of the guerrillas and the pioneering mission of the YJA Star militants. Trained as a new fighter in Besta, she had the consciousness and practice of an experienced cadre despite being a new and young fighter.
After a stay in Besta, Zarîn Aram moved to the Medya Defence Zones and received training to improve herself militarily. Zarîn Aram, who pioneered her comrades with the experience she gained in urban battles, promised herself the following when she joined the guerrilla ranks: ‘Throughout my life of struggle, I will take comrade Zeryan’s stance as an example and I will be worthy of their labour with my struggle. I became their follower. Following in their footsteps is only possible by fulfilling my promise.’ This was Zarîn’s philosophy, her real philosophy of life. In the struggle for freedom, not only physical participation was not enough, participating in the reality of Leader Apo and the martyrs with all your cells is the right participation.
Zarîn got involved in practical work after the training and was influenced by the struggle of martyr Armanç Goşkar (Suna Kızılkaya), one of the pioneering commanders of YJA Star. The guerrilla Zarîn, who stayed with commander Armanç Goşkar for a long time, learnt from that commander how to carry the identity of a free woman properly and how to respond to the process. Realising that her responsibilities are now even heavier, guerrilla Zarîn received training at the Martyr Mahîr Specialisation Academy in 2019. The guerrilla Zarîn, who focused on Rêber Apo’s perspectives and Women’s Liberation Ideology, completed her training at the best level. Zarîn Aram was now ready to take any kind of duty and responsibility after the training. Taking Martyr Delal Amed as an example, Zarin took part in the work within Hêzên Taybet (Special Forces).
The guerrilla Zarîn, who played an active role in the resistance against the operations launched by the occupying Turkish army in April 2022 in the Zap, Avaşîn and Metîna regions, would take revenge on the enemy for her comrades martyred in Cizre. Martyr Delîl took part in the actions in the Western Zap region where the invaders were dealt great blows and actively participated in both tunnel warfare and revolutionary operations with a great sacrificial spirit. Zarîn was witnessing such an operation for the first time, and she utilised this opportunity to the fullest with her actions. With every blow she struck against the enemy, she was acting with the aim of realising the dream of her martyred comrades. Having taken part in the preparation of war tunnels, infrastructure works, revolutionary operations and field teams with a great sense of responsibility, she had now become a fully professional guerrilla.
Zarîn Aram, who fulfils the requirements of the YJA Star identity in every work she was involved in, spent her whole life full of struggle. She won the love and respect of all her comrades with her energy, morale and joy of life. The guerrilla Zarîn Aram, who fought until her last breath in the Martyr Delil Field, who made great efforts both in the tunnel war and in the field war, inscribed her name in golden letters in the history of the guerrilla with her hardworking, sacrificing and combative stance. Comrade Zarîn was martyred on 3 May 2024 in the Zap region as a result of an attack by the Turkish state and joined the caravan of the immortals.
