Mount Armaghan, a dormant volcano reaching 2,829 meters, offers a challenging yet rewarding hike in Armenia's Gegharkunik province. The climb can be demanding due to loose rock underfoot, but the summit boasts stunning views and a unique historical site.
A small, nearly circular lake fills part of the volcanic crater at the peak, reflecting the vast sky. It dries out in the hot summer and in spring time it is more than 15 meters deep. There is a legend that sky fairies come down to drink from the lake. I also tried to drink from the lake but my friends discouraged me. Locals consider this lake and mountain as a holy space.
And indeed, adjacent to the recently constructed church (built in 2009) is an ancient cemetery with weathered pagan gravestones. These stones, adorned with symbols of fertility and human figures, have round sun-like symbols which point at the region's pre-Christian times. Their presence serves as a reminder of how history unfolds in this region, with new cultures often obscuring the remnants of older ones.
Beyond the historical significance, the mountain itself offers a diverse ecosystem. We meet a fox on the lower slopes and a colorful variety of wildflowers.
Be prepared for a demanding hike, but the rewards are well worth the effort.

I like to walk in this park which is very near to my place.
"New Arabkir" Park in Yerevan, Armenia, on Papazyan Street. The park holds historical significance as it was originally the location of the Arabkir District's cemetery, converted into a park around 1963. Seen in the photo is the featured memorial to soldiers from the Arabkir District who lost their lives in World War II, which was built in 1985.

The Sevan Writers' House, located on Lake Sevan in Armenia. Designed by architects Gevorg Kochar and Mikael Mazmanyan, the complex consists of two main structures: the older Residence Hall and the more modern Lounge. The Residence Hall, a Constructivist building from 1932, is embedded in the cliffside, while the Lounge, added in 1963, extends towards the shoreline.

A market where I buy stuff.
The Covered Market of Arabkir District is a modernist building in Yerevan, Armenia. It was built in the 1960s and designed by the Armenian architect Grigor Aghababyan, who was known for his creative and innovative approach to architecture. The market building is one of several notable works by Aghababyan in Yerevan, including the Central Covered Market Building on Mashtots Avenue, which is destroyed now and the Hovhannes Tumanyan home-museum building on Moskovyan Street. The Covered Market of Arabkir District is an important example of modernist architecture in Armenia, featuring clean lines, geometric shapes, and a functional design. The building is characterized by its large, open spaces and natural lighting, which create a welcoming and comfortable environment for visitors.
