I’ve started a photo project for 2026! Inspired by the numerous sets of #RiverValley stairs in the City of #Edmonton, I'll be photographing some of them, sharing their story as I’ve experienced them, in the nearly 25 years I’ve lived here.
First up:
Stairs That Tell A Story: Default Stairs 👇🏻

Today I am thankful to live in a city that is beautiful all year 'round. I live walking distance from Edmonton's beloved River Valley, and that feels like such a privilege.

It's been so warm in YEG this winter that if you want to see snow or ice anywhere in the central city, you have to go to the river. Even that doesn't look like it usually does, though: the freeze-thaw patterns have been freezing the ice and then breaking it up, yielding fascinating patterns.
The fog snake returned this morning! I can't remember the last time that happened two days in a row.
Here's a full panorama of the view pointed east, from about half an hour ago. You'll have to embiggen to see the snake, but it's definitely there (even more pronounced than yesterday, I'd say), and loooooong.
(Sadly on a full panorama you also get to see the ugly empty surface parking lots that #YEGdt is littered with, sigh. But ignore that part.)
One last one, taken from the other balcony, pointed toward west. Maybe I'll sit in that chair today.
