I haven't been drawing much lately, but the kiddo challenged me to a cute drawing contest. Drawing cute things is not necessarily a strength of mine, but I gave it a shot.
I spent some time with the kiddo playing with clays of various sort this afternoon. This is all I managed today, but it's something. And now this is all the evidence it existed as I went smashy smashy a little while later.
I take the kiddo to the library fairly often, and in the kid area they have low tables with some paper and blank bookmarks. Unfortunately (but understandably), the art supplies on offer are big stubby crayons and some mediocre, kid safe markers.
I've made the best of the available art supplies, but I recently started to bring a ballpoint pen with me. I'm also trying to have some prepared ideas to try for the odd format.
Just some fun doodles.

I'm working on one of those brush pen drawings I mentioned above, and it reminded me of a card I made back in 2011. So I dug it out of my archive and decided to share it here.
I made this card for my stepson before he took a lengthy trip over the summer. I was trying to be silly and sincere in a way that wouldn't necessarily embarrass anybody too much.

I'm still struggling to get back into the groove. I decided to bust out a brush pen and decorate the inside cover of the sketchbooks I've recently completed. I think I ruined the robot one, but I can't win them all.
There's some eye contact in the drawings in case that is a concern.

My sketch habit has been rocky the past month or so. Maybe it's the holidays. Maybe it's because I took a detour working on a Christmas card. Whatever the cause, I've been really meh whenever I tried to pick up a pencil and paper, and my attempts at drawing have left me feeling pretty disheartened.
I realized I was probably approaching things wrong and decided to try to relax and just doodle whatever. No pressure. These little fun guys popped out.

I'm still plugging away, although getting time to draw has been a struggle recently. I'm sharing two that, like many things in life, aren't the best but also not the worst.
The Santa wannabe was not planned. I started with what became the top of the bag, and the rest followed from that.
I included a bonus snail, because snail shells are fun to draw and look at.
