series Yakamoz S-245 rewatch, blm 7: Secrets?? Bu bir kurtarma görevidir…
…”this is a rescue mission”… Hedef/Objective
: 34.15N, 25.30E after diving at 1:24am to 36.27.38N, 36.33.21East” midlevel (?) dive, matching the daive route for one day and surfacing at 3:20am, where 5 civilians will be waiting for you, with your orders (?). This is a rescue mission.” (my translation will not be exact, obviously…Ni…)
Umut now, at the start of the seventh episode, has just broken the former captain’s password and found his last orders for the Yakamoz S-245. He calls the crew together to tell them his version of these orders, which is that ‘we the wonderful crew of the Yakamoz, with no warning, were sent to rescue a bunch of useless know-it-alls who ate our food, drank our water, and kept secrets from us, for some secret mission, on NATO orders, and our captain was forbidden to tell us why, so now these idiot civilians who get our brother sailors killed ought to answer for it, right my Siblings?’ while Umut tells them about Defne Eren, whose father was Turhan, and mother was Emma, as the leader of a secret NATO operation, two years ago/iki yıl önce, researching deep sea life alternatives, seeds, life cycles, and that NATO knew about this, as Umut points out that the Lt. from NATO intel. can confirm, and protected their own, using the Yakamoz crew as pawns, Arman bull-rushes in, in a blind rage, to confirm all of this crap about the scientists being a drag and a threat to the crew by furiously attacking Umut. That was pretty much what Umut needed to lock up Arman.
I still love the reference to Piri Reis, famous Ottoman navigator, and one of the brilliant minds sponsored by Kanunî Süleyman, who also sort of sponsor of the famous architect Mimar Sinan, in this episode, sorry, not the previous episode, as I wrote in my eo. 5 review, oops. So now that Define is dead, Arman wants to die with her, while the captain, Umut, wants answers, and seems to be convinced, however illogically, that all of the scientists on board must know what is going on with this secret mission that Defne was supposed to be the head of, although, actually they don’t. So, the remaining scientists decide to refuse to do any further work, most importantly that of figuring out how to grow food using soilless agriculture, until Arman is freed and allowed to eat again, and of course Umut responds by denying them food as well, until they get back in line and follow his orders. And I love how Rana , when she tells Arman that she is no longer afraid of him after all of these deaths of her friends, he is insulted and actually hurt it seems, asking her if it was actually him he was afraid of when he was protecting her. It’s clear from what we’ve seen in previous episodes that he sees her in the same light or in the same way that he saw his younger sister Azra , whom he was not able to protect when he was just a child himself, and feels guilty about , and thus, he tries very hard to protect little Rana, his so-called Bilimci Kız/Scientist Girl, but she doesn’t know that, apparently. Or she doesn’t believe it. She seems to believe that he, Umut , is lying about Defne and this so-called secret mission. So he adds those two to the list: only water!
The chief NCO, Altan, also finally starts to seem worried about what mood is doing or has done, but isn’t speaking yet. As I reviewed this episode earlier, lieutenant realizes that if they actually do end up having to interact with Armand’s diabolical and extremely wealthy father, they may need someone who thinks the same way (s1e7: Bir şeytana ihtiyacınız var “)…, and so she considers freeing Unit, after Arman manages to show the crew that Umut has been dishonest with all of them and is also willing to betray two of his own crew members just to keep his secrets, and they have therefore decided to lock up Umut and promote Yonca to Captain. It’s a very moving episode that is worth watching in any language.
And, free clean drinking water for everyone, everywhere, Project Do Betteralso agrees, is in fact, a human right, every place on this earth.
