#GoodMorning and good #tzag

Just finished up breakfast and finishing up my first cuppa #coffee . Realized Christmas had come and gone without me firing up #Xsnow like I usually do this time of year, so here it is on December 29th, 2025.

I've had the carols playing in my office for a while and the decorations up, but today I remembered to start #xsnow!

@psa Fair point!

That case should probably include an #xrandr `--rotate inverted` for the full effect. A bit of an adjustment period, but I don't think #xsnow has an option to make it snow 'up'.

It would reduce the adjustment period if 03|04|05 and 09|10 used `xrandr ... --rotate right` and `--rotate left`, respectively, but the planet doesn't rotate on that axis. :(

Today's reboot reminded me of something to look forward to for these winter months, thanks to a gift I left myself in my #OpenBSD workstation's #X11 #xenodm `~/.xsession`:

```
# a little snow never hurt anyone, but let's only enjoy it in the winter months
case "$(date +%m)" in
11|12|01|02) xsnow -notrees -nosanta & ;;
esac
```

(Sadly, the #xsnow port & packages were sent to "the attic" long ago, but it still builds and functions normally.)

@untrusem

#linux #desktop #shimeji #oneko #xpenguins #xsnow

GANG! I found something cool!!

So, these work,

apt-get install oneko xpenguins xsnow

xpenguins and xsnow have some bugs in relation to DEs heavily leaning on compositor. e.g. KDE/Plasma, penguins don't land on the window correctly.

but, in my continuing adventures to find desktop effects/pets, i found something called Shimeji, as in

flatpak install com.pixelomer.ShijimaQt

which lets you add a BUNCH more!

as always, YMMV.

Is there an alternative for #xsnow for #KDE #Plasma on #Wayland?

There are a few things that seem to happen regularly in my life that bring me #joy and warm #FuzzyFeelings

One is the #Santa hat on the #VLC logo each year.

Another is seeing my #screenshots through the years and seeing #XSnow running on my monitors in #December

Right now it's me changing my #wallpapers to something #summery since the #SeasonalDepression is leaving my body since it's springtime where I am (or at least it feels like it)

How come nobody told me that there is a new version of #xsnow, now with stars and birds, elks and moose?!!!

sudo dnf install xsnow

@schalken It’s too bad #xsnow was moved to the #OpenBSD ports attic, it still works fine!

Pour les nostalgiques de #Xsnow, il y a des équivalents si vous êtes sous #Wayland, par exemple Snowy¹ pour #GNOME.
