The biggest thing, Erik had to have been in the right. I mean, he was in the right, but the movie disagreed. Give him the grandstanding moment, the prioritization of showy vengeance, but don't make that the big break between him and Charles. Erik can try to send the ordnance back to the fleets at the end, but when Charles stops him, it should be about starting a global war.
Second, don't have the people of color all side with the Nazi. Also don't have Darwin die.
Lastly, have the bad guy actively protect himself from Erik at their first encounter. Have him run away, have his mutant gene active enough to defend himself, put him in a glass bubble where Erik can't affect him, something. As is, it looks like Erik just chose not to kill the guy who killed his mother... while still killing two other Nazis in the same room.
