We just completed our tradition of playing the #Xanth #BiardGame over several days around New Year. We play with generally not given each other very tough combat encounters, which allows for the several day campaign. This year, my wife beat me, as she often does, 9 quests to 4.

We also have the #DragonRidersOfPern game coming soon, which will likely make it onto our holiday list as well.

Got in a funky mood and solved it by the spontaneous decision to reread one of the very first fantasy books I ever read

In many ways it holds up! Rare rewarding nostalgia trip, validating some long held feelings and sharpening some plot/world building memories :3

I just discovered this morning that Florida had a drive-in movie theatre called Isle of View - https://cinematreasures.org/theaters/20290/ - and now I'm wondering if Piers Anthony used that name for the 13th Xanth book as a reference.

A LOT of the stuff that happens in Xanth references real-world Florida locations and events, like a giant chasm in Xanth paralleling an ultimately unfinished canal that was going to cut across Florida to allow barge travel to/from the Gulf of Mexico without going all the way around the Florida peninsula - https://floridahistoryblog.com/cross-florida-barge-canal-a-shortcut-that-never-was/

So, given that, I have to wonder if the drive-in planted the seed, for, if nothing else, the name of the book?
