Absturzstelle eines USAAF B-24H Liberator-Bombers
Am 13. Juni 1945 stürzte ein USAAF B-24H Liberator nahe Gairloch, Schottland, ab – alle 15 Besatzungsmitglieder starben. Das Flugzeug war von Prestwick in die USA unterwegs, verliess den Kurs vermutlich wegen Navigationsfehler, Technik oder Wetter und stürzte beim Versuch einer Notlandung im Loch Gairloch in die Hügel oberhalb der Fairy Lochs ab, nachdem es den Berg Slioch streifte. Die Trümmer liegen heute verstreut am Ufer und auf dem Hügel; einige Teile wie Rumpf, Propeller und Triebwerke sind noch erkennbar. Der Ort ist eine Kriegsgräberstätte mit Gedenktafel und Besucher-Gedenkobjekten.
