Da promessa a leader del Mondiale nel giro di un anno. Andrea Kimi Antonelli torna in Canada, dove nel 2025 conquistò il primo podio in Formula 1, con uno status completamente diverso: oggi è il pilota da battere. Tre vittorie nelle prime quattro gare, 20 punti di vantaggio su George Russell e una Mercedes che continua a crescere. Ma soprattutto un ragazzo di 19 anni che ormai parla da campione. Nell’intervista concessa ai media italiani, Antonelli mostra sicurezza e ambizione. “Non è stato un inizio di stagione perfetto! Ho vinto tre gare su quattro, le potevo vincere tutte”, dice, con una naturalezza impressionante per la sua età.
Una frase che racconta bene quanto sia cambiata la percezione di sé nel giro di pochi mesi. Il tema del titolo Mondiale, inevitabilmente, aleggia attorno a lui. Antonelli prova a scansarlo, ma non lo nega: “Quando vedi il tuo nome là davanti a tutti ci pensi. Però poi mi concentro e faccio i conti: quante gare mancano ancora e quanti punti ci sono”. Il modo migliore per dire che sì, il sogno esiste, ma che nessuno in Mercedes vuole mettergli troppa pressione addosso.
Nonostante i riflettori, Antonelli insiste su un concetto: non cambiare. “Io sono semplicemente me stesso. Mi impegno al massimo per correre, questa è la mia vita e la mia passione, ma anche in Formula 1 ho saputo mantenere la leggerezza del mio carattere”. Anche nel paddock, infatti, il 19enne bolognese è diventato famoso per gli scherzi continui ai membri del team Mercedes. “Faccio scherzi praticamente a tutti”, racconta. Non a Toto Wolff, però: “Avrei sinceramente paura della sua vendetta”.
Tra i modelli fuori dalla Formula 1 c’è Jannik Sinner. I due sono ormai diventati amici, da parte di Antonelli c’è tanta ammirazione: “Di lui è sorprendente la forza mentale: come riesce a ribaltare le cose anche quando è in difficoltà”. E da Valentino Rossi, invece, continua a ricevere consigli preziosi: credere in se stesso, fidarsi delle persone giuste e ignorare il rumore esterno. Una lezione che, a giudicare dai risultati, Antonelli sembra aver imparato molto in fretta.

In an interview with Italian media, Antonelli shows confidence and ambition. “It wasn’t a perfect start to the season! I won three races out of four, I could have won them all,” he says, with an astonishing naturalness for his age.
A phrase that well reflects how much his self-perception has changed in just a few months. The theme of the World Championship inevitably hangs around him. Antonelli tries to avoid it, but he doesn’t deny it: “When you see your name up there with everyone, you think about it. But then I focus and make the calculations: how many races are still left and how many points are there.” The best way to say that yes, the dream exists, but that no one at Mercedes wants to put too much pressure on him.
Despite the spotlight, Antonelli insists on a concept: don’t change. “I am simply myself. I give my best to race, this is my life and my passion, but even in Formula 1 I have been able to maintain the lightness of my character.” Even in the paddock, the 19-year-old from Bologna has become famous for his constant jokes with members of the Mercedes team. “I joke with pretty much everyone,” he recounts. Not with Toto Wolff, though: “I would sincerely be afraid of his revenge.”
Among the models outside of Formula 1 is Jannik Sinner. The two have become friends, Antonelli has a lot of admiration for him: “His mental strength is surprising: how does he manage to turn things around even when he’s in difficulty.” And from Valentino Rossi, he continues to receive valuable advice: believe in yourself, trust the right people, and ignore external noise. A lesson that, judging by the results, Antonelli seems to have learned very quickly.

Una volta spenti i semafori, il britannico Lando Norris (McLaren) ha dominato la scena vincendo la Sprint Race. Il campione del mondo in carica ha confermato il suo stato di grazia precedendo al traguardo il compagno di squadra, l'australiano Oscar Piastri (+3"7), completando così una splendida doppietta per il team di Woking. Sul terzo gradino del podio sale il monegasco della Ferrari Charles Leclerc (+6"2), autore di un'ottima partenza in cui è stato bravo a scalzare un disattento Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
Errori e penalità: Antonelli e Verstappen arretrano
La gara è stata caratterizzata da tante sbavature per il leader del Mondiale, Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes). Il giovane talento italiano ha rimediato anche una penalità di cinque secondi per track limits, terminando sesto dietro al compagno di squadra George Russell (quarto) e a Max Verstappen, quinto su Red Bull. Chiude in settima piazza Lewis Hamilton su Ferrari, capace di tenersi dietro l'Alpine di Pierre Gasly.
