We're in the final three days of our 10-day stay-at-home spring vacation. For most of my son's life, I haven't had enough PTO to take off much of his winter, spring, or summer breaks. But this year, I managed to finally save up enough, thanks to my new boss at my day job, to do April vacay. Right now, my son and I are talking about the video game he's been building in with such care. These convos are so meaningful, and I love being with him.

EXPECTING

Joseph Erkhoff desperately wants to fulfill his date’s expectations.

Dropping L off at nursery this morning was horrific. She cried and ran back towards me and had to be scooped up by a member of staff. My heart cracked. I felt like a failure and that I was failing her. We turned the corner and looked through the window and she was already happy and smiling and distracted by the other kiddos and the prospect of breakfast. I know she’s fine. I know she’s better than fine and is enjoying herself and loving nursery. But the drop offs hurt so much and leave me feeling drowned in guilt.

It's a shame to say no, but as a #WorkingParent with a school aged child, the school holidays are my main holiday time.

I've e-mailed to say no, explaining why and that I would have loved to go involved. Fingers crossed they check #school holiday times in future!

What's on your #tbr pile as we enter the start of this year?

For me, it's two mouth-watering books that I can't wait to get stuck into: #HowToBeACraftivist by Sarah Corbett and #TheLightWeCarry by Michelle Obama. Both are inspiring and supporting my #YearOfGentleness (more on that soon)

I'm in a big transition phase so, for now, gentleness means posting the picture regardless of the Christmas chaos still all over the floor and eating cereal for lunch guilt-free. #WorkingParent

It's my first day back in the office and big, exciting changes are afoot.

Returning to work after #Maternity leave has been a wild ride that knocked me sideways almost as hard as leaving the workforce to have a baby in the first place.

I'm excited to settle into purpose-driven work this year; balancing my drive for career development with the most rewarding yet exhausting job I've ever had - raising my tiny human.

I feel like I ought to post about my professional interests some, as conversations with fellow tech folks is something I’d like to have here. But honestly? I’m just so tired. I have had about 2 weeks of childcare in all of November and December.

Did you know covid is STILL disproportionate affecting working parents seriously, and is disproportionately affecting moms? It makes me angry, to be honest. We’re still left behind.

Giving a presentation to the board while my two kids are at home. I’m playing in the premier league of working parents today! 💪
