I use this old hatchet to split kindling. This was left at my house by one of the many previous tenants. As you can see in the photo, the haft is toast and the head loose. There was dry rot and missing material in the part of the haft seated in the head's socket. I am making a new haft from black walnut. I will clean up the axe head, sharpen it, and may even slightly modify the shape. I love giving old tools a facelift! #toolrestoration #handtools #woodworkingproject #woodworking

Went out hiking looking for wood and found this oak burl on the remains of a long rotting log. The inside is mostly hollowed out. There was a scorpion and a lot of beetles all set up for the winter inside. Felt bad kicking them out, but, clearly, not that bad about it. Not sure what I am going to do with it, but I am seeing a face that may need a little help bringing out.

Been working on the chair when I have the time. Got the shape sorted out and now sanding with a drum sander mounted on my drill. It is slow going but effective. I still need to do the outer side and then go over it all again with a finer grit to get it to baseline and see what I have going on.
