Last week I went to amazing #ethz and #epfl summer school on Optical probing of Nanomaterials in and out of Equilibrium at #ETHZurich to give a 3 hours tutorial about spectroscopic #ellipsometry .
The workshop organizing team had majority of women, and half of the speakers were women. This makes me happy and proud and honored.
@Pyb What a profound epitaph. She gave everything to a science that didn't yet know how to protect her.
Elizabeth Fleischman, Marie Curie, and many others paid with their lives for knowledge we now take for granted. The least we can do is remember their names.
"I believe that I have done some good in this world." She did. 💙

Today in history of #DataScience : Karen Spärck Jones, the inventor of inverse docuemnt frequency and index term weighting. Also known as the principle every possible search engine on the web is based upon.
Her paper from 1972 went largely unnoticed, until it got dug up decades later by engineers trying to make web search work.
