Matt ChambersWe’ve lived here since 1989 and this is the worst snow to shovel I’ve encountered. We only got about 6 inches of snow, but it was followed by at least an inch of sleet. Temperatures are not supposed to get above freezing all week. My adult son came by (he lives elsewhere in DC and had to take his partner to the airport) and he and I managed to clear our steps and sidewalk. Had to use a gardening shovel with a square end to break the worst of the ice. Took us an hour. Then we helped a neighbor clear her walkway. DC is going to be a mess all week.

There’s certainly some irony in a visit from ‘The War on Cars’ podcast hosts Sarah Goodyear and Doug Gordon being canceled by a Level 3 snow emergency that prevented drivers from taking to the road on Sunday.
peachfrontyay! my black-chinned hummingbird is on the feeder, it's 25 deg F right now, i had to rush out at first light to put up the sugar water & i'll swap it out every hour or so until the temperature gets to around 30 (the sugar water freezes lower & slower than pure water)
right now i can see the nectar rising as it freezes so i think i better swap it out right now since he just finished drinking 1/2

At least it was soft, fluffy snow.
And the electric cord for the snow thrower just barely reached through the car window.
And it was actually "warmer" at night than during the day.
Of course, it was still snowing the whole time, & will keep snowing through the night ... so we get to do the whole thing over again tomorrow :| #WinterStormFern
