It's roughly the midpoint of the season, so here we go with Winter Anime Thoughts again:

In case I never mentioned it: I dropped SHIBOYUGI. Beautiful, but pretentious and ultimately empty.

The Darwin Incident has firmly set itself in a weird place in my mind. It feels like it's trying to be propaganda for something, but at the same time trying to actually make a point. In any case, Charlie is an interesting character, IMO, and between him and the over-the-top mustache-twirling terrorists, I think the show remains worth watching.

Omagoto/Roll Over and Die: Flum and Milkit are so gay and I love them. At first I thought this show was gonna be revenge porn with yuri sprinkles, but it's turned out to be mostly yuri with some good old fashioned fantasy action. Revenge? What's that.

MHA Vigilantes S2: This one may be on the chopping block. The season hasn't been as good (Where's the Vigilante stuff gone?!) and episode 6 was just boring as all hell--I quit on it half way through! That flashback could've been cut to about 3 minutes or so rather than making it the bulk of the runtime.

Medalist S2: MY PRECIOUS CINNAMON ROLL BAE DORK!

Oshi No Ko S3: Still bangin'. Better than S2. Finally Ruby gets to shine. Poor Kana.

Frieren S2: I love the elfy, what can I say. More of the same, if you were on board before you still are. It's gonna be hard to pick a best-in-season with these three all in one...

An Adventurer's Daily Grind at 29: The less of big succubus Rirui, the better, and they've been avoiding that more lately. Smol Rirui is adorbs. Still pretty fun.

Champignon Witch: So glad I replaced Shiboyugi with this. It's also very pretty, and manages to be thoughtful without the heavy pretentiousness of that other show.

Kaya-chan Isn't Scary: Things just got a bit more interesting on this one. I haven't talked about this one much. Basically 5 year-old Kaya-chan can see ghosts. And she punches them to death. Yayoi from Dark Gathering would be impressed and jealous (would love a crossover!). And this power seems to run in the family, if Kaya's grandmother is any indication.

Jigokuraku S2: Eh, not sure what I can really say about it. It's a battle anime with some interesting elements drawn from eastern spirituality and a good visual style.

Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling continues to hold my interest, despite some missteps. Dude's got a roommate now in the form of a small poisonous lizard, and one heck of a lair which totally confuses a couple of adventurers who stumble across it.

Setenced to Be a Hero is the show to watch if you want some serious fantasy action with a twist of magi-tech mixed in. And Teoritta needs more headpats. But all the hugs are for Inori in Mealist.

Scum of the Brave Episode 1 Impressions

Finally getting around to this one, my final show to check out from Winter 2026.

Show looks pretty good, and the characters so far are interesting enough. The whole thing about Braves and mafia becoming demon lords is intriguing, and I want more of the backstory.

The relationship between Yashiro and Aki are giving Detectives These Days Are Crazy vibes, but I doubt this show gets as absurd.

Didn't really get too much out of this first episode to form much of an opinion. Will definitely check out a couple more episodes.
