Finally the time has come to share the full collage with my favorite characters or pairings from my favorite anime of Winter 2024.

Finishing #ChainedSoldier I realized that I have developed a certain fondness for the characters - but with the sexual stuff nothing sits right with me.
Yūki gets “rewards” that Kyōka is forced to give (If she secretly likes it she’s hiding it very well) and he doesn’t ever look happy about it either, only forever embarrassed. Absolutely not my cup of beer.
I didn’t see anything resembling romantic chemistry between him and any of the other girls, either, although they became a good team.
The story makes sense but isn’t super innovative or interesting. I don’t think I’d watch another season.

I got through the #UndeadUnluck anime… it was a chore.
The manga is great, the story is great, and they made it look all nice. But all the lengthy flashbacks and extended still shots they needed to make the end of a specific arc occur after exactly 24 episodes was just jarring.
Seeing Fūko, Andy and the others animated was great and reminded me how much I love this series and pretty much all of its characters. The anime is also the reason I can buy figures of them now. So it wasn’t all bad.
But if you liked the anime, you will love the more fast-paced manga which I wholly recommend.

I finished the #CherryMagic anime today and what can I say… wholesome consensual relationships between adult characters are just great.
The story had good progress, Adachi and Kurosawa really had great chemistry by the end and I’m sad to let them go. Would have liked more of them and less of the author friend and his delivery boy, and the animation was quite basic most of the time, but I enjoyed the story to the end. I wish there had been more episodes, the last episode really had a lot to cram in, but also some great moments.
I would love to see a lot more shows like this.

I finished #GushingOverMagicalGirls and I’m quite torn about it. It has some bits that I appreciate because they are rare to see - such as a sadist and a masochist finding each other, and female characters pursuing their sexuality. Azul had some real development there.
But there were also bits that I absolutely didn’t need and which made me want to condemn the whole show and tell people to stay away from it.
You would have to be fine with characters crossing all kinds of borders, the show really ogling the characters, and accept that the main character is a villain who does bad things.

In the end #MetallicRouge was better than I thought in the middle. A lot of topics that seemed random turned out to actually be relevant to the overall story which came together in a conclusion that mostly made sense.
Nevertheless this show could have done better reducing the cast and having a clearer focus on one topic to give it more depth.
The emotional growth and learning that Rouge went through should have been a central aspect, but came out weak. I think everything just went to quickly to really follow how she changed her mind about some aspects.

About #tIsTimeForTorturePrincess i don’t have much in terms of closing words. It’s a very wholesome show that also makes your mouth water from time to time.
The characters are all very lovable and fun to see interact.
I read the manga but don’t know it so well as to spot where they have expanded or added stories, but the anime did a good job making long episodes out of rather short manga chapters and not making it feel too random.
I can just recommend this as a feel-good show.

The main appeal of #7thTimeLoop came from its proactive and well-versed heroine Rishe. While most “villainess” heroines are like that, she has this abundance of different experiences that explain her various skills.
However, I cannot quite cheer for her relationship with Arnold. The back and forth is fun but I don’t quite like how this looks like “I can fix him”.
Some other conflicts also seemed to resolve a bit too easily. So while I it’s not a bad show by any means, I am a bit hesitant to say that I’d watch another season of it if it came about.

I’m glad Solo Leveling is over for now and really pondering if I need to watch another cour. The show is clearly not for me. The main thing it has going for it is the excellent presentation, but I can’t get myself to care what happens to Jin-Woo. He doesn’t convince me as a character (what are even his personality traits? Hobbies? Interests?) and any other character is just a cardboard cutout anyway. It’s especially bad with the women who are not influencing the plot or any man’s decisions at all.

I can somehow grasp how this got popular enough as a novel but it’s not for my taste.

Among Isekai titles, #TheWrongWayToUseHealingMagic stands out as a show that isn’t a one-man show centered around a single character who came to a new world, and one that raises the stakes without appearing too dark.
It addresses the topic of fighting in an actual war with seriousness, and manages to NOT have the existence of healing magic make that seem too inconsequential.

I really liked the characters and how they all bonded and influenced each other. The (entirely unromantic) relationship of Usato and Rose is a gem.

I’d happily welcome a second season.
