Pond update... It has New Pond Syndrome, so full of algae bloom, or sludge. Mosquito larvae has just turned up, which is good, a nice first dinner course for the bigger creatures. And after just an hour of putting in a mini reed and lily a damson fly landed on it. So, looks gross, won't sit near it for a few weeks but it's having a great time! 😂

A #wildlifepond is a #biodiversity booster.
There are so many rewarding aspects of having a small pond. One of them I particularly like is when dragonfly larva emerge from it or dragonflies deposit their eggs in it.

I heard about this activity suggested by @JamesGarden where you post one photograph a month of a specific place in your garden.
I think it’s a great idea and I’ve chosen this little snow-covered corner of my backyard where my husband and I dug a small pond 2 years ago.
The pond has become a symbol for us of how we are developing our property to better welcome wildlife.
I’m Evelyn and I’m gardening in zone 6a near #Montreal , Quebec.
More #WildLifePond nerdery. My #RamsHorn snails have arrived! I've got a fair bit of algae going off and apparently these little ones are quite good at handling it. So i guess I'm live tooting their release! Didn't expect them to be so pretty!

Just last summer my husband and I dug a pond in our backyard to serve as a wildlife refuge and pollinator garden.
Just one year later - in spite of our forest fire grey skies and lack of sun for most of July, the plants - both introduced and indigenous - are thriving and we’ve had lots and lots of happy visitors 😃
