Doing the local rounds today, but it was pretty quiet, with the cold and wind. Songbirds were scarce. Waterfowl and larger shorebirds like herons and egrets were in the far sides of the ponds. Biking home, I turned off to pick up some groceries. About a block from the Trader Joe's near me, I saw a pigeon-like form land on a telephone pole. I was was pretty set on ignoring it, but the color, movement and form were off, so I stopped and looked. And this Merlin posed for me for a good 10 minutes before I finally took off.
