An easy way of improving #Wikipedia as a photographer is to take pictures of current events in your local area. Here's an image of the flooding in a Butte County walnut orchard after some back-to-back atmospheric rivers hit California over the course of the past couple of weeks. I took this image this morning near the Sacramento River southwest of Chico and it's already up on Wikipedia…

One of the best things about taking photos for #Wikipedia? Being able to share the beauty of nature with millions of people through your lens.

When I take photos for #Wikipedia, I sometimes come across a random, yet beautiful subject. Like when I was photographing the Pacific Coast a couple days ago and saw this European Starling sitting on a wooden pole right next to the Bodega Head parking lot.

Fun fact: all European Starlings in North America descended from birds set loose in New York's Central Park in the early 1890s.

Most people that I meet on my photography adventures don't know that "taking pictures for Wikipedia" is a thing. So, when I'm out shooting, I often engage in conversations about how Wikipedia needs more photos. That's what happened this morning, when I took this image for the article "Greater white-fronted goose":

As a Wikipedian, I love books! This is a view of the beautiful Heyne reading room at the Göttingen State and University Library. After a series of thefts, it was closed to users in 2010.

I'm very thankful to the people at the Göttingen university library for giving me special access to this place. This is where I wrote some of my early Wikipedia articles, back in the days when I was still living in Germany.

I love photographing modern architecture for #Wikipedia. This is a photo of the Museumsinsel subway station in Berlin's Mitte district. I took it during a photowalk with one of my friends in September 2022.

The beauty of sharing your work under a free license: only a month after I took this image of Guy de Maupassant's birthplace in Normandy, a French website already re-used it. I love it when people around the world use freely licensed photos that I take for Wikipedia!

Météo, prévisions en Normandie pour le jeudi 20 octobre

Dans un flux de Sud assez fort, les averses de la matinée feront place à des éclaircies de plus en plus durables. La douceur des températures, bien qu'en recul, restera remarquable.

Guy de Maupassant (1850–1893) has always been one of my favorite French authors. In September, I was able to take this photo of his birthplace for Wikipedia. The image shows the southern façade of Château de Miromesnil in Normandy. Full resolution, as always, on Wikipedia's media repository:
