On page 68 @sarahmei wrote a gentle reminder:

> Always be Ruby-friending!
> — Sarah Mei

The  foxes are nodding at each other,
swapping gems like trading cards,
and every `def` feels like an invitation to 🍵 tea.

Ruby-friending isn't just about code.
It's about the conversations in the hallway,
the debugging sessions that turn into laughter,
and the quiet moment when someone says "I get it now".

Every Ruby friend you make is another fox joining the den.

Nearly a year ago, we lost @codefolio. A kindness in the community and a keeper of  _why's flame.

In the ✍️ guestbook, Noah wrote:

He spent years preserving _why's work, rebuilding #Shoes and reminding us that programming could be joyful.

Now, Noah is gone too.
Even further. 🕯️
But like _why, he's never forgotten.

Rest well, Noah. 🦊💜

Happy #Whyday! 🎉

Once a year, the  foxes put on party hats, the  gems sparkle a little brighter, and we remember the joy of coding playfully, curiously, and a little bit chaotically.

It’s not just about #Ruby. It’s about being creative, writing code that sings, and celebrating the forever-weird magic that _why  left us.

Want to join the mischief? Ship something small and silly, just for the fun of it 🥳

Whyday: August 19

So @adamwiggins left a note in the 📔 book

> Keep up the Ruby-ing!

Heroku and #Ruby go together like foxes and cleverness. Did you know #Heroku was born as a Ruby platform? In the early days, it was only for #Rubyists#Rails and #gems, blocks & foxes, all running wild in the cloud.

So when Adam says “Keep up the Ruby-ing!”—he’s really saying:
Let your gems sparkle, and remember that every Heroku #dyno is just a little fox,
waiting to carry your dreams into the cloud.

In 2024 @fxn left a note in the #guestbook that feels like 🌅 a sunrise over a quiet dojo:

> Zen and Ruby came to the West from Japan.
> They enlighten us like gem reflections in daylight. — Xavier

Now, every time I type a new method,
I imagine a  fox in a kimono,
sipping 🍵 tea and murmuring:
“The answer is not in the code, but in the spaces between.”

Found a chat between two foxes—just hanging out, like they own the place (and honestly, they do). Here’s what @andycroll, the wizard behind @brightonruby, scribbled:

A: Go to Brighton Ruby. It’s really fun!
 B: I dunno, seems like we shouldn’t.

They’ll probably say “no” at first, but that’s just fox logic.
Deep down, they’re already packing their bags,
sharpening their code,
and practising their best conference jokes.

Who let the 🐰 rabbit in the bar?

In the 📖 guestbook (which is really just why’s poignant guide to Ruby pretending to be a guestbook—shhh!) I also found this #gem from @arkham:

> A priest, a pastor, and a rabbit enter a bar. The rabbit looks around and says "I must be a typo..." — Ju, 2023

If you ever feel stuck debugging, just remember:
the whole internet is just one big, happy, polymorphic bar.

There, right at the front, just beneath the title and those gentle words that whisper who’s behind this masterpiece of a book (it’s why the lucky stiff, in case you’re still curious), you’ll find a little note from  @matz addressed to   why:

> He started a movement.
> I miss you, why!
> まつもとゆきひろ
> matz

It’s a note that feels like a secret handshake,
or a  fox peeking out from behind a line of code.
