I’m mainly sharing this interview tip because it really helped @cloudthethings recently:

If you get a tech question where the answer is “well I wouldn’t do x” or a simple answer when they’re expecting a deep answer, remember:
- interviews are meta
- this is not real

So here’s the trick.
“If this was real work, I’d say not do this because [reason] however I understand you’re asking me to explore this as a interview topic so in the spirit of that we can explore…. “

It’s magic. You get the real opinion done and heard, so you don’t lose credibility but you’re still allowing them to use their notes and see how you approach problem solving. Plus you can seem more senior by considering build vs buy as an option upfront, assuming the “don’t do” is “get foo to do they have a tool”.

Enjoy! #interview #techtest #interviewscenario #whiteboarding

June 04, 2024 Day 156: Progress report:

1) Daily Reading: freeCodeCamp news: Read 1 article. & Daily.dev I wasn’t able to log in perhaps there was a server issue. I lost my reading streak.
2) Stanford ~Code in Place: Worked on my Python final project. Submitted project proposal, created some needed files for the project, created a few project milestones, and had a project whiteboard session

Excalidraw has quickly become my go-to sketching, wireframing, and whiteboarding tool. Super simple.

Love the local-first approach too, instead of being locked within the confines of the Figma and Miro walled gardens.

(Digital) #whiteboarding can help grow an idea. But don't mistake it for #TechnicalDocumentation, the real foundation of a durable product. No one will look at that #Miro board once the meeting is over!

"People use Post-its to […] make meetings more collaborative […] Instead, images of such sessions became products themselves. […] Their meaning doesn’t come from what is written, but from its having been written across colorful rectangles and squares."
