May is the zenith of spring, when the soft pinks and pastel yellows of early wildflowers set off the waters of ponds, coasts and marshes to perfection. With many of our summer migrants having arrived already, nowâs the time to set the alarm clock and make an early start to catch a wetland dawn chorus. Breeding season is in full flow and our wetlands are starting to fill up with broods of oystercatchers, redshank and lapwing chicks.

Eine Graugans zieht ruhig ihre Bahn durchs Wasser. Die Art gehört zu den häufigeren Großvögeln der Region und nutzt die flachen Gewässer des Donaudeltas als Rast- und Brutgebiet.

Lunca, ein kleines Dorf am Kanal
Boote und ausgebreitete Fischernetze deuten auf die Bedeutung der Fischerei und auf eine lebendigere Saison im Sommer hin. Gerade in der Nebensaison entfaltet der Ort eine stille, unaufgeregte Atmosphäre.

Das ausgedehnte Schilf im Donau-Delta ist eines der prägendsten Elemente der Landschaft und bedeckt große Teile der Wasserflächen. Es dient nicht nur als Lebensraum für zahlreiche Vogelarten, sondern wird auch wirtschaftlich genutzt, etwa für Reetdächer.
