Ok, I think I can talk about it without falling apart now.

A few days ago, I found our beautiful, majestic, and very much beloved Johnny Rose Duck dead in the grass.

There were no apparent injuries, so we can only assume he'd been ill but showed no sign of it, which isn't unusual for a prey species. It was just so sudden and unexpected to find him like that and it hit me really hard.

I know people say you aren't supposed to fall in love with farm animals, but that's just not how I'm built and also it's not my fault that they are so damn lovable.

We are gonna miss you so much Johnny Rose Duck. I’m heartbroken that I won’t get to hear your drake hiss anymore, beautiful boy.

How about some duck introductions today?

This is Stevie. She spent some time indoors getting rehabbed last winter after we rescued her from the clutches of a bobcat’s mouth. She had 3 holes in her neck from the bobcat attack and couldn’t quack or swallow solid foods so I basically hand fed her duck smoothies for a week till her wounds closed up and she could eat on her own. She made it through the ordeal fine and is still with us today.

[The water is yellow because that’s what our well water looks like]

Team Fertz is now Team Eggs-n-Fertz!

Behold: el primer huevo

My lil quackles are all grown up 🥲

…Which, let’s face it, was already known due to their many very enthusiastic Sapphic encounters (get it, ladies)
