Our amazing #WeatherRescue volunteers have completed the digitisation of 30 years of sub-daily pressure observations from the Oxford Radcliffe Observatory: 3x daily for 1828-1856, & 12x daily for 1855-1859 so far!
And you can still help! www.WeatherRescue.org
Would you like to help climate scientists?
If so, today we launch our latest #WeatherRescue project.
Join other volunteers to transcribe lost weather observations. The mission is to recover pressure measurements taken in Oxford between 1828-1860.

Tomorrow we launch our latest citizen science #WeatherRescue effort to transcribe atmospheric pressure observations taken at the Oxford Radcliffe Observatory between 1828 and 1860.

‘Data rescue’ encompasses the processes of seeking out, preserving and archiving historical datasets. Preservation is achieved by transcribing and digitising original manuscripts, a once-laborious process that has been transformed in the last few years by the use of citizen science projects. This meeting brings together those who are working to reconstruct, archive and extend climatic records.
Citizen science is a valuable tool for climate science, and many other disciplines.
Currently, volunteers are transcribing detailed weather observations that were written in ship logs on voyages around the world in the 1860s, and turning the hand-written measurements into digital data.
This data will help us better reconstruct past changes in climate. #WeatherRescue
And, anyone can help!
Wondering what to do on a rainy Sunday?
Can you spare a few minutes (or more) to help climate scientists by transcribing weather measurements taken onboard ships travelling the world in the 1860s? #WeatherRescue
Ed Hawkins (on the bird site), famous for inventing the climate stripes:
"Today we relaunch #WeatherRescue!
Millions of pages of ship logbooks are full of detailed weather observations which have never been digitised.
Transcribing this data will improve our knowledge of how the climate has changed. Do you have some time to help?"
