A lot of Americans do seem not only willing, but eager, to believe that some silly concoction will be the breakthrough cure to their problems. Often, they seem drawn to simplicity. I have a number of conservative acquaintances who flatly reject the Theory of Relativity, on the assertion that "it just can't be true." Too complicated for them, so case closed.

These magic cures seem similar. Medical double-talk not fixin' you up? Try this tonic!
