Less than 10 minutes left in the lifespan of #WCBS880 as an all news #radio station, after 57 years of being the go-to source of the NYC metro area. π»
Now it will be a sports station. Heartbreaking.
But in retrospect, not surprising: Audacy owns both all-news radio stations in NYC, 1010 WINS and CBS 880 AM, so they are killing off one in favor the other. INFURIATING. https://mastodon.social/@SesameSquirrel/113006425899451827
Just found it!
Had no idea and I have been around a looong time π

Also I could be remembering this wrong - but I think WCBS did NOT have antennas on WTC and was one of the only news sources able to continue broadcasting on 9/11. (I am trying to find that info now) #WCBS880
This is such a loss for the NYC metro area. Traffic and Weather on 8s. Even tho they could lean conservative we ALWAYS listened to them 1st - for news too. 30+ years. When we moved to CT it was fun to see how far north / east we could drive before losing the AM signal #WCBS880
Very sad moment will happen on Monday, Aug 26th when #WCBS880 AM will cease broadcasting as an all news #radio station.

I've been listening to the station of Charles Osgood, Ed Bradley, Charles Kuralt & others, all month since the news brokeπ
WCBS 880 is broadcasting a retrospective special on the station's storied history right now (Aug 22, 10 am-1 pm) -- "WCBS 880 News: The people, the moments, and the events that shaped our lives"
