A friend gave me this Vintage #WaveTek ‘Model 19’ 2MHz function and sweep generator - it’s beautiful inside and seems to work just fine.

I can’t find a servicemanual or the schematics - even the regular user manual seems to have vanished in time..
Let me know if you find one somewhere 👌🏼🙂

I don’t plan to keep this, I’ll pass it on, but it’s fun to see old gear come to life like that 🥰

It’s #waveformwednesday, let’s make it #vintagewednesday as well 👴🏻😃

I’m assembling a small low pass filter and I want to sweep it from 100Hz to 10kHz. Let’s do it the old fashioned way ☺️

Before modern oscilloscopes with BodePlot options became available for everyone, a common and quick way to sweep a circuits frequency response, was to connect an external sweep generator and look at the resulting curve on the screen.

Using the #CuteGen™️ I’m sweeping logarithmic from 100Hz to 10kHz. I’m using the generator trigger output as trigger on channel 2 and the X-axis is adjusted to be exactly one period, i.e. 100-10KHz.

The filter response can clearly be seen 🙂

This method still has its justification. Not everyone has fancy scopes and even if they have, it’s still a smart and fast way to quickly observe a frequency response. Show me any fancy scope updating a bode plot every 100ms 👌🏻🙂

NE566 - the way it works is quite smart 🙂👌🏻

In a previous post I demonstrated how charging a capacitor at a constant current produces a linear ramp.
The 566 does exactly that and outputs a beautiful triangle 👌🏻

It passes the triangle through a Schmitt-Trigger, resulting in a 50% duty-cycle square wave 🤩

And for the NOS aficionados out there: these DIP-8 is dated 1978, so 45 years, still going strong 💪🏼😃

Inspired by a Twitter dialogue, let’s launch some daily #electronics tags to be used freely 👍🏼🤓

Today is #waveformwednesday and here’s how my mains grid looks - not quite a sine but that’s to be expected.

Don’t ever, EVER, connect your scope input directly to mains - use a high voltage differential probe or a transformer, as shown here.

I’m using the #quicktest switch, it’s a really handy way to control power to a circuit. It’s of British origin and comes with a standard 13A BS1362 fuse. I found that a bit high for my purposes, so I replaced it with a 5A, significantly limiting the available energy in case of a fault situation. Safety first always applies at the bench 👍🏼⚡️☝🏻

So go ahead, use these tags freely, be inspired and show us your experiments 👌🏻🙂
