After lengthy process, Pickle Lake, Ont., receives nearly $6M to replace water tower
The Township of Pickle Lake, Ont., has received more than $5,976,800 in provincial funding to build a new water tower, an effort to ensure safe drinking water for the community. The current water tower is restricted from being completely filled with water, according to the township’s officials.

Two Towers.

A 39-metre ochre-yellow water tower in Intiö, Oulu, designed in 1927 by architect J. S. Sirén in the 1920s Neoclassical style. Sirén’s most celebrated work, the Finnish Parliament Building, was completed just four years later. The water tower was decommissioned in 1969 and has yet to find a new purpose.

Standing guard in front of it is a small wooden electricity transformer tower — a charming counterpart to its much grander neighbour.

The Leaning Tower of Texas/Britten, located in Groom, Texas, was originally a functioning water tower that was tilted at a 10-degree angle as a marketing strategy for a truck stop in the 1970s, becoming a popular Route 66 roadside attraction. The historic water tower in Bremerhaven-Lehe on Hafenstraße rises prominently above the trees and the square in front of it. Built in 1852/53 to a design by architect Simon Loschen, it dates back to the early days of Bremerhaven’s water supply and is also known as the Schwoonscher Wasserturm. Today, it remains a protected landmark and a striking reminder of the city’s urban and industrial history. //
