They need more volunteers to join them at Firehall Creek on Friday, October 3 & Saturday, October 4 from 10 am - 2 pm. The work will be focusing on planting native plants as part of ongoing restoration efforts.

Gloves, tools, and guidance will be provided & no experience is necessary. Everyone is welcome.

Millions of people around the world celebrate #WorldRiversDay on the fourth Sunday of September. This event was started in 1980 in BC by Mark Angelo, river conservationist, and the BC Outdoor Recreation Council. From there Mark's vision has encircled the globe. In 2017, 2018 and 2021, Cowichan Tribes and the Cowichan #Stewardship Roundtable co-hosted #QuwutsunRiver Day. #Cowichan Tribes is the largest band in BC and is active on many fronts doing #RiverStewardship. Cowichan Stewardship Roundtable was founded with Cowichan Tribes and #conservation groups more than 20 years ago. It is a #grassroots group promoting collaboration on solving #watershed issues.

Sunday, Sept. 21: 🌲 Gather with #CowichanTribes and the #CowichanStewardship #Roundtable to celebrate Quw'utsun Sta'lo' Skweyul (Cowichan River Day). Enjoy a performance by the Tzinquaw Dancers, learn Quw'utsun teachings, make salmon art, meet birds of prey and so much more from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m

The Watershed Schools are articulate. They consist of teachers, students, living books, farmers, friends, and a council of elders. A teacher tells the students: go find the living books in your community – the wise ones who remember the old ways. The living books know how to reforest, they know which plants and animals were there when the water still flowed fresh and clean. The idea is to apprentice the young directly to the old.
