From Yellow Warblers to Rare Accidentals: 26 Warblers You Can Find in Nebraska

Nebraska may not be the first state that comes to mind for warbler watching, but birders who know the state's geography understand just how remarkable it truly is. Positioned along the Central Flyway, Nebraska acts as a funnel for tens of millions of migrating birds each spring and fall, and wood-warblers are among the most anticipated travelers passing through. From the cottonwood-lined banks of the Missouri River to the rugged canyons of the Niobrara Valley, Nebraska offers a surprisingly […]

31 Warblers Found in East Tennessee: Identification, Habitat, and Birding Spots

East Tennessee is one of the most remarkable warbler destinations in North America, and serious birders know it. Nestled between the Great Smoky Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau, this region offers an extraordinary mosaic of forest types, wetlands, and river corridors that support an astonishing variety of wood warblers — from flashy breeders that spend their summers raising young in the Appalachian highlands to secretive migrants passing through on ancient flyways each spring and […]

24 Warblers in Alabama: Species Profiles, Identification Tips, and Where to Spot Them

Few birding experiences rival the thrill of spotting a flash of yellow, olive, or black-streaked plumage darting through an Alabama woodland. Warblers in Alabama represent one of the most diverse and exciting groups of songbirds in the entire Southeast, with species occupying every habitat the state has to offer — from cypress swamps and Gulf Coast barrier islands to mountain ridges and suburban pine stands. The peak periods for most species that migrate through Alabama fall between late […]

10 Warblers in Alaska: Identification Tips, Habitats, and Where to Find Them

Most birders picture Alaska as a land of eagles, puffins, and shorebirds — but warblers? Absolutely. Despite its subarctic reputation, Alaska hosts a remarkable variety of these small, energetic songbirds every year, drawing birdwatchers from across the continent to its boreal forests, coastal thickets, and riparian corridors. Some species breed here in impressive numbers, raising young beneath the midnight sun, while others pass through on some of the longest migratory journeys in the […]

Female #Galápagos yellow #warblers engage in frequent vocal singing, but unlike their male counterparts, their songs do not function as signals for territorial defense or same-sex competition. Instead, their vocalizations appear to facilitate communication within a mated pair.

Female song in Galápagos warblers challenges assumptions about birdsong

This research directly challenges decades of scientific bias that treated birdsong as an exclusively male trait driven by sexual selection

Saw a Northern Parula up close today gleaning insects in a magnolia tree. 🙂

Be sure to click on the "Listen" link to get their little song in your "bird brain" because you will hear them much more often than you will see them!

Second item explains what we where confused about, the odd east/west break in their breeding range...

"Northern Parulas have an odd break in their breeding range. They breed from Florida north to the boreal forest of Canada, but skip parts of Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, and some states in the Northeast. The reason for their absence may have to do with #habitatLoss and increasing #airPollution, which affects the growth of moss on trees that they depend on for nesting."

Third item is the page from my 40+ year old bird book with the #phonogram of their song.

Because of this I was able to ID this bird a few years before I ever saw one!

(Note the photo was taken in northern #Wisconsin in 2012.)
