Ended Wednesday and welcomed Thursday after my swim with Walt Dickerson Plays Unity an album led by vibraphonist and composer Walt Dickerson recorded in 1964 and released on the Audio Fidelity label.

The Allmusic site awarded the album 4½ stars. The DownBeat reviewer stated: "Unity is a brooding, darkly moody excursion into tonal and rhythmic (both drummers play simultaneously) impressionism..." - Wikipedia

Ended yesterday and welcomed Friday after a swim with To My Queen an album led by vibraphonist and composer Walt Dickerson recorded in 1962 and released on the New Jazz label.

The Allmusic reviewer stated: "The whole album is swathed in a gauzy glow that speaks even more eloquently than its creator's conceptual ambition; this is music from the heart as well as the mind".[3] Down Beat reviewer Don Nelson wrote: "This tribute from Dickerson to his wife constitutes some of the finest jazz I have heard this year. It is necessary listening not only to those interested in the forward march of Walt Dickerson, but to those interested in the forward march of jazz". - Wikipedia

Ended yesterday and welcomed today with Relativity an album led by vibraphonist and composer Walt Dickerson which was recorded in 1962 and released on the New Jazz label.

...Down Beat reviewer Don DeMichael wrote: "This third Dickerson album, like the first two, offers excitement, emotional experience, and music of high quality. ...this is a very good album and is heartily recommended for the sometime electrifying emotion Dickerson is able to generate." - Wikipedia

Welcomed sleep last night and greeted the blue skies of Tyr's day with A Sense of Direction an album led by vibraphonist and composer Walt Dickerson recorded in 1961 and released on the New Jazz label.

AllMusic reviewer Steve Huey stated: "If it's a shade less challenging and inventive than This Is Walt Dickerson!, A Sense of Direction compensates by making Dickerson's innovations more accessible and inviting".[3] DownBeat reviewer Pete Welding wrote: "if it is only slightly less adventurous than his initial recording, it is still an ardent collection -- primarily of ballads -- treated with unflagging invention and restrain ...Were it not for the slight conventionality of some of the numbers, the rating would have been five stars."

I bought the recording of Sun Ra-Walt Dickerson Haverford College 1980 a few years back off Bandcamp. Noticed today that an extra track had been added at some point and it's the missing encore duet!

Exciting to heard a Walt Dickerson track I hadn't heard before and with Sun Ra playing on it too. A magic 16 minutes. Walt's sound and playing is just wonderful. A happy day!

Sunday evening listening. A wonderful duet album from 1978, 'Visions' by Walt Dickerson and Sun Ra.

13 years after Sun Ra played on Walt's 'Impressions of a Patch of Blue', they were back again to recorded one of my all time favourite albums. Walt was on top form. Late 70's Sun Ra is always worth a listen. Great period for him, I love his solo piano records from around this time.

Vibraphone player Walt Dickerson's recording career spanned 20 albums from two periods 61-65 and then 10 years later 75-82.

Everything he recorded is enjoyable, the later stuff is a little more out there. His last album Life Rays (1982) is maybe my favourite. He revisits It Ain't Necessarily So as the final track. It's wow. He is light on dark days for me.
