I’m playing #StarTrek (2013) a lot recently. It’s a fast shooter with an easy rule set and a fair difficulty level. All major shots are easy to hit
(maybe except the warp ramp) and if you miss you’ll probably bash into something else. Only downside are the interchangeable missions (Klingon Battle? Prime Directive? Just hit the flashing ramps) and the rather low Trek vibes which are kind of fine for me, cause I don’t care so much for Kelvin Trek anyway.

Dark Knight and Fireball II fun tonight!

Figured out a problem with volume on #virtualpinball #vpx tables. Remembered that under the 'coin door' setting there's a volume for games that have digital sound effects. Brought that up so it was at the same level as the 'table sounds' (like bumpers and flippers and stuff), and now it's completely playable!

Had to get this one up and running. IYKYK.

Tonight I finally got back to almost par working on my #virtualpinball machine. I had built the standard VPX Windows based box a while back and let me tell you - it SUCKED. Maintenance was almost impossible, and... it just sucked. The games played okay when they played, but debugging problems? Absolute nightmare.

This is now runnign on #batoceralinux and is much easier to maintain. Here's Attack from Mars on it. It's good to be back.

Some interesting new tables! Frontier by Bally and Terrific Lake by Sportmatic. Frontier is really fun.

If any sw-decoder people (#dav1d, #ffmpeg, #vpx etc.) read this, do you know how feasible it would be to make decoders:
1. support output formats common for hw-decoders, like NV12, P010 etc.? Do some already do, do the #gstreamer implementions just miss something? Do I miss something?
2. support externally allocated buffers, crucially ones with stride != width?

Both points could help make things more performant - and together they could even allow zero-copy playback with common display engines.

In other hobby news - my #virtualpinball setup is giving me some hassles. I really want to get Addams Family to work correctly (other tables are working great), but holy crap these graphics look like ass. I wonder what i'm doing wrong.

3d printed a front panel and mounted the basic buttons. About ready to go to the next step on this one and install the new buttons and panel into the big cabinet.

I'm having WAY too much fun with this build. This is a VirtualPinball table, currently running GOONIES. I've gotten the playsurface, backglass, and dot matrix display working, controls are currently on the keyboard, but i have the parts for the rest of the box.

I think I'm going to scale up the monitor from 27" to 32" before building out the actual cabinet. But holy cats this is fun.
