Huajiang Community / 華江社區 / Part I.
There is a 50-year-old community of 16 buildings that holds over 4000 apartments on the west side of Taipei, all bound together by a circular footbridge (that looks like this from the top). It is now a popular location for advertisement/film-making, having retained so much of the 1970s vibe.

Morning Market in the Afternoon.
When I was running the test roll through the Vivitar point-and-shoot, one of my objectives was to use the camera in situations where it required the flash as much as possible. I was daunted but also enormously intrigued because I already know they don't translate well into my usual aesthetics and yet I was eager to make photographs that were a little bit out of my comfort zone simply out of curiosity. When I first got these back it took me a while to settle into them. I had reservations about how real they look - the dirt, the mess, the harshness. But would I try something like this again? The answer is most definitely yes.

A special shoutout to the out-of-focus plates on the last photograph - mala stinky tofu (麻辣臭豆腐) and Makino bamboo shoots (桂竹筍). It's one of my favorite meals, made complete with a good bowl of white rice.

The seller I bought the Revue 400 SE from had this camera in his shop and no one was bidding on it, so at 1.99 euros it went right into my shopping cart since shipping was flat rate. Mine was a cute gray and red combination which doesn't come up often on eBay. I say 'was' because it's now sold, I have too many similar cameras and there is a real need to cull. It's a neat little auto-focus, though, especially when flash is turned on. I don't do flash photography much at all and most of the time the distribution of the flash on these auto-everything cameras can be very uneven or too harsh but I did like the effect on this first and final roll.
