Worked at the charity/ thrift shop with my mum today. Found a bunch of cool stuff.

I normally go though bags of donations and sort them out put them on the shop floor etc and some clothes come to us pretty stained and ripped.

I want to save things from landfill so I've saved some stained stuff and and working at getting the stains out.

I found a cardigan with a hole in and just mended it in 2 minutes.

Blew out a knee on a pair chino pants. Decided it was time to try the Japanese Sashiko visable mending technique. Pretty happy with the result.

Learned how to mend bare threaded cloth and cross hatch mend holes in knit woven cloth last year. It’s been kinda cool to give life to my cloths that would normally be waste at a land full. I wish fashion was made to last longer but I’m glad I can make it last in my own way.

For this project I used embroidery thread and a large darning needle and my darning “loom” is just a wood coaster I had on hand with the fabric taught to the wood with a band.
These are a pair of sweat pants I’ve had for about 2 years.

This bowl is repaired with copper seams, which is a fairly common repair on, among other things, bowls. There have also been other types of metal wire for this type of repair but this bowl specifically wanted copper in the seams. Items that you make usually want to tell you how they want to look😄

Thanks @corbden @Em0nM4stodon I didn’t know #visablemending was a hashtag until this. Now I’m following. 🦄
My first #sashiko project

I bought a sashiko kit last year but haven’t had the opportunity to use it yet. Thankfully I managed to grab my brand new shirt in an awkward place, ripping the seam and tearing the fabric underneath. Oh well, all fixed now.

Perhaps it’s more semi visible mending. I gain a lot of small holes along the bottom of my T-shirts from aggressive tucking in. These holes wouldn’t have been visible under my waistband but I wanted to contain the damage so I placed a patch of jersey knit on the backside and stitch them on with black sashiko thread. The stitches are at a diagonal to allow the fabric to stretch a little.
